Senior Engineer – Client Technology

Two (2) temporary, full-time positions

As a Senior Engineer – Client Technology, you'll coordinate all aspects involved in developing, and testing the implementation of, computer hardware and software applications, with a focus on ensuring compatibility with the Peel Regional Police computing environment. With your desktop support experience and strong problem-solving skills, you're well equipped to assume responsibility for desktop patch management and Electronic Software Delivery to all desktops and mobile devices throughout the Service, along with providing Level 3 technical support to incidents that cannot be resolved and/or have a high business impact or level of urgency.


More specifically, as a Senior Engineer – Client Technology, you will:

  • Participate in, lead and coordinate desktop activities in incident response for major outages and security-related incidents.
  • Develop and test software packages for automated electronic delivery, using deployment tools such as Admin Studio and SCCM.
  • Analyze user requirements for microcomputers, peripheral equipment, software and mobile devices, conduct research on emerging technology, and evaluate and recommend new hardware and software desktop technology.
  • Develop, implement and maintain desktop standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on testing for application compatibility and customizations to prepare for deployment using established deployment methodologies.
  • Monitor and analyze support calls, provide solutions and follow-up to ensure that problems are resolved appropriately, and participate in troubleshooting critical systems and network problem areas.
  • Develop, implement and maintain coordinated virus and patch management practices in accordance with Peel Regional Police (PRP) IT Security practices.
  • Oversee the development of an Asset Management Program within the Service, and develop and implement processes/procedures for tracking company assets.
  • Compare licences, warranties, maintenance agreements and/or contracts against audits to ensure legal compliance and asset upkeeps, upgrades, repairs and replacements.
  • Certify hardware/software applications that are not PRP standard, and report on their technical and functional merits.
  • Participate in vendor information sessions, maintain knowledge of trends in technology, and introduce new approaches, as appropriate.
  • Develop, implement and maintain technology standards, guidelines, policies and procedures using AD, GPO and MDM.
  • Participate in creating the standard desktop image, including testing and piloting of the final image prior to deployment using SCCM OSD, and review and implement changes to the image following established change control processes.
  • Plan, test, schedule, create and submit production change requests to the Change Management Advisory Board using defined change management processes.
  • Participate and represent Desktop Operations in new projects, including developing, evaluating, testing, recommending and implementing new technology solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership in the area of desktop configuration and management within Peel Regional Police, and consulting services to technology projects.


In the role of Senior Engineer – Client Technology, you will apply the following education, experience and skills:

  • A university degree in a computer-related discipline or equivalent, with Microsoft Certification (MCSE), ITIL Foundation Certification, or Microsoft Specialist in Windows 7/10 (SQL 2012 preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' related experience in a senior desktop support role.
  • Demonstrated experience working with Windows 7/10, MAC OS and iOS, Windows performance analyzer, application whitelisting, virtualization technologies (VMware), and mobile device management (Air Watch).
  • Demonstrated advanced experience in building software packages, automated software distribution and patch management using SCCM, Admin Studio and PowerShell.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of hardware/software applications pertinent to the function.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of systems ITIL Configuration Management principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft EA licensing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the installation and configuration of hardware/software.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written communication skills, including experience with developing technical documentation for a knowledge base and knowledge-centred service as well as end-user documentation for training purposes.
  • Demonstrated analytical, research and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid Ontario Driver`s Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges.

The salary range for these temporary, full-time positions is $60,314.80 to $101,628.80 per annum.
