The Senior Manager - Planning reporting to the Director of Connectivity & Infrastructure, is accountable for providing technical expertise and leadership to direct reports as well as managing the development of the 3-to-5-year network plan. This plan includes Network Evolution Plans, Technology Roadmaps and the evaluation of new systems and technologies across all technologies managed by Connectivity & Infrastructure.

This role is accountable for the development of the Network Capital Plan relating to implementation of Northwestel systems, facilities and equipment based on user / service requirements driven from an understanding of business needs in the coming year. They are also accountable for the delivery of the hand-off of that plan to the respective technology teams for execution.

This role provides direction and leadership to direct reports in their support of company requests related to potential strategic network builds, industry best practices and technology evolution. This may include the development of high-level engineering plans, planning level estimates and potential timelines.

Specific Accountabilities

Leadership (50%)

  • Lead a team of technical professionals who are responsible for delivery of our company's services through long-term planning.
  • Provide quality management for the day-to-day needs of the team and company.
  • Sign off on plans and peer reviews.
  • Assist in resolution of escalated incidents.
  • Problem Resolution.
  • Increase the overall competency of the team.
  • Utilize performance management to clearly set individual deliverables, expectations and to review success throughout the year.
  • Ensure that the team's budget is optimally managed.
  • Provide input into the vision and direction of the team, C&I and Northwestel overall.

Business Planning (30%)

  • Develop Network Evolution Plans.
  • Develop Technology Roadmaps and the evaluation of new systems and technologies across all technologies managed by Connectivity & Infrastructure.
  • Develop next year's Network Capital Plan and coordinate handoff to respective technology teams.
  • Participate in planning phase of projects to determine technology solutions.
  • Work with C & I technology teams to ensure planners have the information to develop technology business plans. Including information on capacities and availability of assets, lifecycles and enhancement of assets based on age, ROI, capacity.

Strategic Support (15%)

  • Facilitating discussions with internal and external groups on key technical issues and proposals
  • Engaging key stakeholders in the Network Evolution discussions

In-Year Project Implementation, Capacity and Availability Management Support (5%)

  • Providing support to C & I technology teams in executing implementation plans based on technology business plans.
  • Design technology solutions based on technology menu items.
  • Guidance to team when plans need to be changed due to external impacts.

    Knowledge and Competencies Required

    This position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, Business or Finance, supplemented by five years of experience in a telecommunications environment or related field with planning and people leadership experience.

    This Senior Manager position must have the ability to work in a matrix reporting structure and requires that the incumbent possess very strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and communication (oral and written) skills along with being computer literate with the Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, Excel, Access).
