Job Details RHA Job Number: GO-00759086 Number of Vacancies: 1 Profession: Registered Nurse Organization: Saskatchewan Health Authority Facility Name: MENTAL HEALTH INPATIENT Department: MENTAL HEALTH INPAT Employment Type: Permanent Employment Term: Casual Posting Date: April 24, 2024 Closing Date: May 5, 2024 21:30 Hours of Work: Shift Information: Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends Rate of Pay: $38.580 to $50.070 (6 step range) Union: SUN Job Description Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the incumbent will provide specialized psychiatric nursing care on a 12 bed Mental Health Unit, including all aspects of the nursing process to patients experiencing a broad range of psychiatric, social and medical problems. In addition, provides staff supervision and assumes periodic charge nurse responsibilities. Skill and duties include: � Comprehensive knowledge of mental health conditions, concurrent disorders, psychotropic medications, their uses, side effects and ability to provide patient education with a nursing lens. � Knowledge and application of treatment modalities: Mental Health Recovery Oriented treatments, CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing. � Implement the admission and discharge planning processes with patient, as part of an interdisciplinary team and incorporating family/supports involvement as part of care plans � Reports and accurately records patient�s behaviour, response to treatment, medication and all facts or related information to patient�s health care status. � Provides health teaching to patient and families for provision of safety; prevention/management of illness or its recurrence; restoration of individual to his/her optimum level of functioning. � Maintains current knowledge of Mental Health Act and complies with all requirements. � Excellent teamwork skills. � Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a team based environment � Excellent communication and crisis management skills. Leading de-escalation efforts to prevent aggression and violence toward self or others. � Assists with the orientation of affiliating students to the role of the psychiatric nurse, the team system, team programs and medication administration. Participates in providing a meaningful, comprehensive clinical experience. Job Qualifications Required Qualifications Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing Registered or eligible for registration with the Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS) or College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to adapt to changing conditions Advanced assessment skills Advanced interpersonal skills Advanced organizational skills Counseling skills Facilitation skills Mediation skills Additional Information The ability to demonstrate excellent working knowledge of commonly used psychotropic medications, the Provincial Mental Health Services Act and Regulations, psychiatric conditions, demonstrated competency in comprehensive psychiatric nursing assessments, care planning and treatment is preferred. Successful candidates external to SHA are responsible to obtain and provide an original Criminal Record Check (CRC) & Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) from their local police service, RCMP or previous country/countries of residence that is dated within the past six (6) months that is satisfactory to the Saskatchewan Health Authority The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) requires a criminal record check (CRC) from every potential SHA team member. The CRC must be dated within the past six (6) months and be satisfactory to the SHA. A vulnerable sector check (VSC) is required for individuals providing patient/resident/client care to vulnerable persons.
