Position Title: Senior Technology Specialist, Quality

Reports To: Technology Platform Owner - Core Systems

Department: IT

Term: Permanent Full-Time



Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.



The Opportunity: Equitable is looking to fill the full-time position of a Senior Technology Specialist on our Group Insurance team!

Group Benefits Quality Assurance covers a specialized area dedicated to high-quality application and solution delivery for applications supporting the Group line of business. Your activities will include planning, developing, coordinating and participating in the full suite of testing activities including functional, system integration, and end-to-end testing activities for core systems, web, and mobile applications.



What you will be doing:

  • Lead building/maintenance of new/existing automation frameworks supporting multi-platform applications.
  • Create and execute Test Strategies, Test Plans and Test Cases. Track progress on test activities from estimation to post-production support.
  • Perform automated and manual testing.
  • Automate creation and maintenance of reusable test data sets.
  • Guide team in prioritizing delivery of high-quality product/release.
  • Effectively communicate testing progress and escalate risks to all project stakeholders.
  • Mentor team members on test automation skills and guide in enhancing test automation coverage.
  • Provide technical guidance to peers and/or end-users regarding technologies that enable continuous delivery of shared solutions.
  • Assist in the maintenance of existing internal processes and quality system management documentation to uphold quality Standards.
  • Inspect systems and processes to identify opportunities for improvements to workflow and enhanced efficiencies.


What you will bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, College diploma or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of experience in Software testing practices covering test planning, test execution and defect tracking.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in implementing test automation using modern test automation tools to support Desktop, Web & Mobile applications.
  • Sound knowledge of QA practices, tools, methodology and processes.
  • Extensive hands-on knowledge on leading commercial and open-source automation tools and libraries (Selenium, JMeter, TestComplete, Postman, ReadyAPI, RestAssured, Playwright, Appium).
  • Familiar with Microsoft Azure DevOps tool and similar tools to integrate test processes in CI/CD pipeline.
  • Ability to create test scripts in leading programming languages.
  • Familiar with Microsoft technologies (VB6, .NET, SQL database, Azure Cloud)
  • Experience working in Agile and waterfall delivery models .
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, proactive, and collaborative.
  • Awareness and understanding of cultural diversity.
  • Experience in Agile and knowledge of CI/CD will be an asset.
  • Having CSTE, CSQA or other leading industry certifications is an asset.
