Job Summary:

The Site Reliability Specialist III provides platform assistance and platform management in building, deployment and monitoring of NAVBLUE Solutions. The purpose of the position is to ensure smooth operations and delivery of NAVBLUE Solutions by ensuring the reliability of systems via platform expertise, coaching, monitoring, resolution of failure events and deployment of customer facing Solutions. This position is expected to define, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure.

The Site Reliability Specialist III is expected to perform highly complex and varied tasks, solving problems, and assisting others to do so, with little to no supervision. This position will promote automation including Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management.

The Site Reliability Specialist III will need to have an excellent knowledge of Operating Systems, Virtualization, Networking and Cloud based infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role will also have a solid knowledge of automation.



Responsibilities:

  • Define, implement, and manage cloud-based infrastructure.

  • Improve existing monitor methods by working with and providing recommendations to Software Factory teams.

  • Investigate/solve reported errors and warnings, with escalation as required.

  • Provide guardrails for hosting platforms to maintain security compliance and limit cost overruns.

  • Participate in root cause investigations and recommend permanent, long term, fixes to issues assigned.

  • Use existing infrastructure/process/procedures to perform Solution deployments.

  • Consulted by other teams for any items affecting monitoring & reliability of systems, including Service Level Objectives

  • Implement/improve automation to reduce toil (manual work that is repetitive, tactical, devoid of enduring value that scales linearly)

  • Provide guidance for cost reduction of NAVBLUE Solutions

  • Champion appropriate use of cloud operational best practices.

  • Consulted in converting existing legacy applications to run on new deployment platforms.

  • Accountable to deliver a resilient and highly-scalable platform for application development across the globe, with a strong focus on continuous delivery and operational insight

Education:

  • Successful completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science or technology (or equivalent)

  • At least 1 AWS Associate Certification required. Additional certifications an asset

Experience:

  • Solid experience designing and building secure solutions in AWS (Amazon Web Services)

  • Extensive experience in systems administration or a combination of software/systems experience

  • Some experience in scripting and automation of asset

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities & Competencies:

  • Solid knowledge of Operating Systems & ability to perform troubleshooting required.

  • Extensive knowledge of Cloud Technology concepts & ability to perform complex troubleshooting required.

  • Solid knowledge of networking for enterprise environments required.

  • Solid knowledge of Virtual Machine concepts and management of infrastructure

  • Demonstrated ability to identify root cause of issues and to recommend permanent, long term, fixes.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform complex troubleshooting in AWS environment and providing guidance to other teams.

  • Proactive, confident self-starter with effective interpersonal and communication skills\

Technical Systems Proficiency:

  • Advanced Proficiency with operation and support of Linux or MS Windows Operating Systems.

  • Excellent working knowledge of Linux Core (Kernel, Modules & Dependencies)

  • Excellent working knowledge of Windows domain administration, patch management, IIS management and Group Policies

  • Working knowledge of networking, shell scripting, MySQL, MS SQL, DNS, XML, Perl, and Palo Alto firewalls an asset

  • Excellent knowledge of Cloud environments, such as AWS
