Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1,852.71 to $2,314.51 per week in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:

• Provide leadership and conduct review of client requests for IT infrastructure solution in data centers across the province and assess/determine the priority/complexity of all infrastructure build integration project work
• Assist clients with determining information technology solutions to resolve their business problems
• Provide technical leadership in the evaluation of the latest releases of software and hardware to determine applicability to ongoing maintenance projects and in current or future applications, and in the planning, designing and development of options to meet client business requirements
• Conduct feasibility studies into new areas of technology and make recommendations
• Provide advice/expertise in acquisition or development of software and hardware
• Coordinate services and/or consult with vendors and IT support specialists
• Prepare RFPs, conduct product tendering, evaluation, selection and acquisition, and negotiate servicing/acquisition contracts
• Provide leadership and expertise in the planning, coordinating and implementing of new hardware and software
• Provide guidance and leadership to other staff/team members and provide training

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• You have a valid driver's licence with the ability to travel to various office locations.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

• You have knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including all server computer system technologies, network, security, Internet and mail technologies, and theory and principles of Windows and Linux, Unix operating systems, systems design and development
• You have knowledge of systems analysis and design methods and techniques to develop systems and methods for managing servers and web sites and to prepare systems for statistical and exception reporting
• You have knowledge of server and storage systems, networking, SAN, data backup and recovery, system/server monitoring, audit, and security system/applications
• You have knowledge of virtualized computing environments, including VMWare, Hyper-V, Citrix, and other technologies
• You have knowledge and skills to design and create highly available solutions
• You have knowledge and skills to design and create Active Directory, DDI solutions (DNS, DHCP, IPAM) and integration of existing systems
• You have knowledge of cloud technologies - IaaS, PaaS, SaaS
• You have knowledge of the business operations of Emergency Health Services, Public Safety, and Mission Critical systems in order to develop server solutions
• You have knowledge of testing and implementation methods and practices to design testing procedures and conduct acceptance testing
• You have knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations that apply to the work, and knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills

• You can identify, and evaluate infrastructure solution options for clients, and design, develop and implement technology solutions
• You can identify and analyze the root-cause of the incident/problem, and assess the severity and potential impact.
• You have experience in, and ability to implement, effective problem management processes to provide timely technical support and problem resolution, document the result of analysis and prepare reports to management with recommendations.
• You can analyze and evaluate a variety of technology solutions and make recommendations

Communication and Consultation Skills

• You have verbal communication skills to discuss and explain highly complex information and lead expert discussions
• You have writing and presentation skills to prepare complex technical briefing papers, technical project/research reports, system technical documentation and proposals • You have interpersonal skills to discuss, explain, and promote acceptance of technology solutions with clients

Project Management Skills

• You have knowledge of project management methodology, analytical tools and processes, and tendering process to support projects, assist in the development of project plans, and conduct advanced technical and financial analysis

Leadership Skills

• You have proven leadership skills to act as a subject matter technical expert and provide ongoing technical leadership, guidance, and training to project team members, vendors and section staff
• You can lead project teams in the evaluation of hardware and software products to support technology architecture solutions
