General Accountability

The IT Services Department is looking to recruit for the following roles: Senior Business Architect, Senior Enterprise Technical Architect, and Senior Solution Architect.

Reporting to the Director Strategy & Architecture, the incumbent is responsible for their respective architecture domain, dependent upon the position. In terms of the respective application, data, information and technology architecture domains, the incumbent works as a Senior Architect for any needed technical or business areas, and provides enterprise architecture expertise to translate enterprise strategy into future enterprise architecture and transition plan. The incumbent also applies specialized knowledge of areas of business process, technology solutions, and methods to drive technology optimization and architecture recommendations. This entails collaborating with stakeholders and subject matter experts to design IT and business solutions in alignment with business goals and corporate objectives. The incumbent may also work on both IT capital and operating projects to fulfill the responsibilities as an architect.

Key Job Functions

  • Responsible for the enterprise responses to both technology and business problems, aligns technology for the business outcome, identifies opportunities and analyses the execution of change toward desired business vision and outcomes.
  • Identify Enterprise Value in projects and drive consensus to balance creation of enterprise solutions and manage the creation of coalesced views of business capabilities and technology capabilities.
  • Work with business stakeholders and incorporate Enterprise Architecture standards, policies, and best practices to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Accountable for the development of architectural roadmap, standards and regulations guiding IT designs and implementation. Communicate decisions and standards of the Enterprise Architecture practice to the organization, driving understanding and appreciation for the value of architecture governance and standards.
  • Accountable for the development of business outcome-driven metrics and define the goals of the Enterprise Architecture.
  • Oversee the architecture and enabling technologies strategy for the multiple architectural domains. Research technology industry trends to determine their potential impact on area of focus. Conducts POCs (proof of concepts) activities and inform key technology decisions and strategy
  • Create IT product and service roadmaps for the introduction and retirement of technology, cost/risk reduction and optimization, adherence to architectural standards, and the continual enablement of business strategies
  • Oversee project solutions to ensure efficient and sustainable architectural design that are able to meet the present and future needs of the business.
  • Work in collaboration of team of architects such as solution architect, data architect, technical architect and network architect under enterprise architecture section.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, business representatives, and subject matter experts to evaluate business and technical problems and identify opportunities
  • Coordinate and monitor the activities of other IT sections such as solution delivery, information security to ensure compliance with the overarching architecture plan and design of a complex project.
  • Participation in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service provider and an employer.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a college diploma or a university degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Business), combined with directly related experience in a business or computer related discipline, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
  • Considerable experience in hands-on design and implementation experience in one or multiple enterprise architecture domains (business, application, information, technology, solution) and working with a diverse set of stakeholders

Additional Requirements

  • Must have the ability to understand the "big picture" along with tactical options and perspectives of situations
  • Experience leading successful application and technology modernization and implementation.
  • Experience designing complex solutions in a rapidly evolving technology domain.
  • Experience in a senior architectural position and experience working with a diverse set of IT and business stakeholders.
  • Experience in process re-engineering principles and processes as well as basic knowledge of information principles and policies.
  • Knowledge of key aspects of the business as well as knowledge of all aspects of enterprise architecture.
  • Understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, or client/server systems and an understanding of the enterprise goals & business context.
  • Knowledge of IT infrastructure and data centre architecture, cloud solutions as well as application development methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge with one or more cloud technologies like Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Red Hat AMQ streams and/or Apache Kafka an asset.
  • Experience in ERP solutions such as SAP an asset
  • Knowledge of frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman, and/or ITIL certification an asset
  • Applied knowledge and experience working in agile, scrum, and DevOps an asset.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
