Description

The Job Developer will research, establish, and develop job placement opportunities for clients while offering consistent check-in meetings to Dreaming in Colour and Team Wellness Program Participants.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Client Services and Program

  • Research, identify and organize 4-week voluntary work placements for each Dreaming in Colour participant in consultation with the program coordinator and students
  • Ensure that work placements meet both the clients and employers' needs
  • Ensure appropriate supervision, support and follow-up related within students in the fulfilment of placement responsibilities
  • Ensure that all placement documentation is signed - either signed in-person or virtually by both the student and employer
  • Develop relationships with employers and community to determine ongoing placement opportunities within each student's field of interest and to secure paid employment, education, and training opportunities for students in the post program support phase
  • Work with and facilitate class of small groups of students to help develop job searching skills
  • Research and update teaching materials for facilitation of skill building classes
  • Provide advocacy, supportive counseling, mentoring and guidance to participants throughout the duration of the Dreaming in Colour and Team Wellness program, including the post-program phase
  • Update the POES database with all client contact details during the post program phase on bi-weekly basis
  • Organize two events or workshops per year in conjunction with the Employment/Life skills Coordinator for students in the post program support phase
  • Contact Ontario Works case workers on behalf of mutual clients for updates on progress within the programs

Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of client information on The Salvation Army's computer system while maintaining confidentiality and providing statistical reports
  • Maintain accurate written records, logs of activities, including activity reports and statistical information
  • Remain up-to-date and proficient in use of all office equipment relative to job duties
  • Assist coordinator in updating class teaching materials, handouts and student resources binders

Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on a 25 hours per week
  • The working environment is in an office/classroom/community engagement environment
  • This job requires the ability to lift/ move up to 40 lbs. and reach, bend, and stoop frequently; work in a standing position for long periods of time
  • Travel may be required for this position; a program vehicle will be made available if necessary

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Post-Secondary degree/diploma in a related field (e.g., Social Service Worker, Social Worker, Community Service Worker)
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior job development experience
  • Knowledge of community-based resources, education, and training opportunities in Toronto, as well as funding streams; experience networking with government and social service agencies
  • Knowledge of the Toronto labour market and industry trends
  • Counseling and coaching experience in terms of life skills and motivation
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License, own vehicle, and insurance, provide an original copy of current driver's abstract for review and verification that it satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required

  • Ability to work in a team and to establish rapport with employers, clients, case workers and colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for clients
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Must possess the ability to work flexibly taking into consideration the unique qualities of each client
  • Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications, Internet, email, and database entry
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner
  • Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public, both in person and on the telephone
  • Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change
  • Adaptable, proactive, a self-starter and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening as required
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
