Position:

Graybar Canada Limited currently seeks a Systems Administrator to join our growing technology team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.  This is a national position based in our Corporate Head Office. The role of the Systems Administrator is to handle our daily IT infrastructure and cloud operations. This position is responsible for assisting in the operation of the full stack of IT infrastructure and cloud services.

Position Responsibilities:

  • 2+ years' experience working with Microsoft/Office 365, Azure, SAML/SSO, Active Directory, Windows Server, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Teams, VMware vSphere and dependent services
  • Plan, deploy, integrate, manage, and maintain enterprise applications across business units
  • Improve technological business workflows through automation of tasks using Azure, PowerShell, and/or web apps
  • Collaborate and assist eCommerce and Marketing departments with website, web apps, and related systems
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure in difficult situations
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation relative to best practices, standard procedures, knowledgebases, checklists
  • Collaborate extensively with peers and management to resolve issues while actively contributing to a growing knowledge network that improves the effectiveness of our team and the information available to our employees
  • Proactive monitoring of all servers, applications, and cloud services using a combination of tools to ensure high availability
  • Troubleshoot system and network outages, diagnosing and solving hardware and/or software issues
  • Monitor and maintain backup and replication systems to ensure the protection and integrity of company data
  • Perform a wide range of system administration duties on all servers, applications, and cloud services including install, debug, maintain, upgrade, and support
  • Evaluate, test, and deploy all software, firmware, and hardware upgrades to the server and client infrastructure
  • Communicate with employees or vendors, face-to-face, telephone, or teleconferencing, to help set up systems or resolve issues
  • Work continuously on a task until completion (or referral to third parties, if appropriate) and maintain project status using of project management software
  • Identify opportunities and recommend solutions that will enhance or improve current business processes
  • Provide emergency on-call support on a rotating schedule

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Can show either 2+ years' experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role in a Microsoft technology environment and/or have post-secondary education in a recognized IT program
  • Working technical knowledge of Networking, Active Directory, Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft SQL
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as VMWare vSphere, Hyper-V
  • Experience with monitoring solutions such as Orion, IPMon, TrendMicro
  • Experience with Enterprise backup solutions such as Veeam Backup and Replication
  • Experience with Enterprise storage such as HPE Nimble Storage and Synology
  • Experience with application deployment and patch management with Configuration Manager or Microsoft Endpoint Manager (Intune)
  • Experience with with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or other markup languages
  • Ability to automate and collect data with Windows PowerShell or scripting languages
  • Enthusiasm for continual learning with a passion for learning new technology
