We are searching for a talented candidate to become our team's Manager, Engineering Reliability and Innovation. Reporting to the Director - Enterprise Data Engineering, the successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of accomplished data engineers and architects supporting our data and analytics platform transformation.


This role will be an agent of change and support the evolving strategy, data and analytics roadmaps as well as provide overarching direction on continuous improvement to our GCP engineering practices (common ingestion framework), CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, SRE, real-time data ingestion, addressing technical debt and supporting special projects & POCs. Our team is a cloud first team and leverages the latest technologies to fuel our mission and purpose.

What you'll do

  • Lead a team of talented data engineers and architects to drive value for TELUS via data enablement
  • Foster internal and external stakeholder relationships (business + technical stakeholders), including managing senior executive participants
  • Provide innovation and guidance to establish standards, best practices and continuous improvement for building enterprise grade data pipelines
  • Work with our preferred Cloud service providers to align our roadmap based on their release schedule for services and product offerings.
  • Construct comprehensive business cases and financial models leveraging various methods to support strategic projects and decisions with data driven insights
  • Utilize internal and external data points coupled with market research on marketplace dynamics impacting TELUS and the Data Strategy team to inform opportunities and risks for the team
  • Create technology roadmaps for business partners, executive management, and external audiences to enhance strategic decision making and support technology investment recommendations
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to create, track and evolve the team scorecards and strategic imperatives
  • Support the annual strategic and financial planning process
  • Flex your communication, negotiation, and influencing skills, working with a broad set of internal stakeholders, executives and external partners
  • Mentor, lead, and support a diverse and very talented team

Qualifications


What you bring

  • You have experience in technical leadership, managing data platforms, business intelligence tools and setting architectural direction
  • Bachelor of Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent (Masters preferred)
  • Stay up to date with the latest in technology to drive innovation in a very fast paced environment with competing/constantly changing priorities
  • You can communicate clearly and effectively in both technical and business matters able to translate technical considerations into business implications
  • You are analytical and outcome-oriented with a proven ability to translate business requirements into high-level design models
  • You have hands-on knowledge of foundational cloud data architecture of lakes, warehouses, lake houses, data modeling, and development life cycle mgmt.
  • You have demonstrated experience with the governance and oversight of data privacy, security and the ethical use of data in previous roles
  • You have experience with cloud migration projects, agile methodologies, and DevOps practices
  • You have experience in software and API development (as an individual contributor and as a leader)
  • You have impressive people leadership track record with proven ability to recruit, coach, mentor and lead high performing teams in a fast-paced environment
  • You are a skilled relationship builder and skilled at prioritization, negotiation and influencing
  • You can pivot between supporting the urgent needs of the business and the long-term roadmap
  • You have experience working on and supporting large, complex technical projects that involve multiple stakeholders and business units
  • You have exposure to tools, technologies and programming languages including, but not limited to, Python, Airflow (composer), SQL, Apache Nifi, Hive, Spark, Dataflow (Apache Beam), Datastream, Dataproc, Kafka, Java, Spring Boot etc.
  • You have experience creating a vision for and implementing a culture of change to drive CI/CD, DevOps and other opportunities for operational effectiveness
