Reporting to the Senior Director, Analytics, the Data Modeler will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining data models on cloud platforms, primarily on Azure to support enterprise-wide data solutions. This role will work closely with our data engineering and analytics team to ensure our data infrastructure meets the needs of our business. How does one do this? Glad you asked!

What will you do?

• Design, implement, and document data models that consolidate data from diverse sources for analytical processing and data visualization purposes
• Analyze business needs to translate them into data models while working closely with Development teams, Data Architects and other SMEs
• Collaborate with data engineers and BI developers to facilitate the seamless flow of data to BI tools for dashboard report creation
• Create conceptual, logical, physical data models along with flowcharts
• Write complex SQL queries for intricate data analysis, profiling, and extraction
• Lead working groups and stakeholder meetings for data specifications, understanding the appropriate level of specificity to model at different stages of a project
• Understand and contribute to data quality management principles, including metadata, lineage, and business definitions
• Evaluate existing data systems and identify issues in the foundational data model that could hinder efficient and effective data usage, such as slow queries, poorly validated data, or unnecessary data duplication

Some things that would impress us:

• Bachelor's degree preferably in engineering, mathematics or computer science.
• 5+ years of experience with developing data solutions in an Azure environment

• Experience with SQL Server, Oracle, and Azure Platform Services including Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, ADLS, Synapse Dedicated & Serverless Pools, and Azure DevOps is required
• Working knowledge of next-generation data platforms including NoSQL, Graph, Data Virtualization, in-memory data stores and self-service data platforms
• Knowledge in Kimball Data warehousing concepts
• Expert proficiency in SQL is required; working proficiency in Python would be an asset
• Advanced knowledge in Power BI, Power Platform, and Dynamics 365
• Strong understanding of data governance, data quality and security best practices, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop business partnerships, describe technology concepts in simple terms, and document initiatives in a concise and clear manner
• ML, Data science experience will be a plus but not required
• Background in banking or financial institutions would be an asset
