About this opportunity:

This role provides technical support for industrial hygiene (IH) resources and programs and is a critical link to the effective implementation of IH and occupational health programs at the Cenovus Foster Creek facility. It supports the continuous improvement of programs, policies, management systems and the protection of workers.

This position requires a strong technical background, experience, passion, and organizational skills to execute and administer planned and responsive exposure assessment and surveillance activities. It requires the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team while exhibiting collaborative behaviors.

The ability to understand operating processes and apply technical standards, exercise professional judgement, manage competing priorities and maintain and build effective stakeholder relationships is critical to the success of this role.

What you'll do:

  • Assess IH hazards and risks and develop recommendations for short term and long-term control strategies.

  • Craft and develop site procedures, tools, and information materials pertaining to the prevention, protection, and control of chemical, biological, and physical hazards.

  • Conduct or direct the work of IH professionals to support the completion of workplace assessments and projects to ensure suitable corrective actions are identified and communicated.

  • Develop and coordinate IH surveillance program in alignment with management system requirements.

  • Support the requirements of COIMS.

  • Advise management and employees on regulatory compliance, standards, health hazard and risk assessment and control requirements.

  • Provide situational expertise to the organization to provide education, awareness, control and improvement recommendations, systems, and processes to support the implementation of IH&OH systems.

  • Interpret and apply related jurisdictional regulations and requirements.

Who you are:

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist or Registered Occupational Hygienist designation is preferred, but actively working towards registration or certification will be considered.

  • 7-10 years direct IH, occupational health and safety program development experience.

  • 3-5 years related professional experience in oil and gas

  • Experience reporting and communicating technical information to workers, management, and stakeholders.

  • Post-secondary education in an IH program or program in a related discipline.

  • Ability to function optimally in a remote oil and gas production operating environment and related work activities.

  • Ability to work 7-on-7-off shift rotations and live in industrial camps while on shift.

  • Demonstrated competency in exposure assessment methodologies and control principles.

  • Strong working knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation in Alberta.

  • Proficiency in computer software applications, specifically Microsoft Office; familiarity with IH data systems

  • Excellent written, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills encouraged.

  • Solid presentation/training skills and experience delivering presentations.

  • Valid class 5 drivers license.
