Position Summary:

Reporting to the Hatchery Manager, the Quality Assurance Manager is accountable to ensure that the Quality, HACCP, and Animal Welfare programs are implemented which includes but not limited to on-site observations, data collection, review of records, filing, written material creation, equipment calibration, reporting and training hourly employees. As a critical member of the hatchery team, incumbent will also be responsible for planning parts of the production process such as but not limited to egg setting, transfer, and hatch schedules. Lastly, the incumbent strives to exemplify a Sofina Builder thought their positive attitude and actively participating in continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Accountable to organize their work efficiently so all assigned duties are completed on time with the resources available;
  • Accountable to ensure the accuracy and completeness of their work;
  • Accountable to plan various aspects of the production process;
  • Accountable to ensure that Quality, HACCP, and Animal Welfare programs are implemented/updated;
  • Accountable to maintain a continuous state of audit readiness by ensuring facility always complies with regulatory requirements and all corresponding documentation is completed;
  • Accountable to analyse data collected to investigate high mortality and slow hatches;
  • Accountable to initiate corrective actions and preventative measures;
  • Accountable to provide training and feedback to hourly staff within the scope of their QA duties;
  • Accountable to take inventory of supplies and order accordingly;
  • Accountable to perform other duties as assigned based on operational needs.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture, or related discipline with significant coursework in Animal Science;
  • A technical Q.A certification with related field experience will be considered;
  • 5-7 of progressive experience in a senior QA role.
  • Familiarity with the hatchery industry and previous supervisory experience in a similar setting is preferred;
  • Knowledge of HACCP and GMP are essential;
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control and internal auditing systems would be an asset;
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing;
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
