Sr. Technical Product Manager (Business Translator)

We are seeking a Senior Technical Product Manger to join the Advanced Analytics team. As a Senior Technical Product Manager, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between the technical and business worlds, by translating real-world business problems into advanced analytical concepts that drive actionable insights & recommendations. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, machine learning engineers, external collaborators, and business stakeholders, to identify and prioritize opportunities, define product strategy and requirements, navigate uncertainty during complex engagements, and effectively communicate results & technical findings.

To be successful in this role, you should have advanced communication and interpersonal skills, as well as previous experience in data analysis, data science, data engineering and/or business intelligence. You should be known for your creative approach to problem solving and ability to make connections across your organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with other departments to identify and prioritize opportunities aligned with WestJet's overall digital strategy & roadmap, where the Advanced Analytics team can unlock significant value through AI (artificial intelligence), ML (machine learning), and/or data science.
  • Act as the product owner to translate ideas into well-defined business cases. Accountable for product vision & strategy, product scope / requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and metrics for success.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and prioritization of the Advanced Analytics team's long-term product roadmap.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and business groups to ensure the teams are aligned and working towards a common goal from the beginning to the end of an engagement.
  • Be an advocate of Agile and drive continuous improvements by adopting Agile practices and tools under the mentorship of an Agile coach.
  • Work closely with the technical team to understand and interpret analytical results.
  • Translate complex technical concepts and findings into actionable recommendations for business stakeholders, demonstrating advanced presentation skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Business, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, etc.).
  • 3-5 years of experience in a technical product manager role.
  • Experience in developing and shipping digital products and proof of concepts in an Agile environment, playing the product owner role.
  • Strong understanding of AI (Artificial Intelligence), ML (Machine Learning), data science principles and technology (hands-on experience preferred as data scientist, analyst or engineer).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.
  • Strong problem solving and strategic thinking abilities.

Nice to Have:

  • Agile Product Owner or Scrum Master certification.
  • Product management training or certification.
  • Project management training or certification.
  • Prior experience working for an airline.
  • Experience in creating clear visualizations, UX, data-driven storytelling.
