Work Location: This position is primarily remote, with occasional on-site collaboration required at the National Gallery of Canada (380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa), based on operational needs.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Web and Digital Media, the Team Lead is responsible for providing technical guidance and leadership for the planning, design, and development of the Gallery’s public facing digital presence ensuring an optimized, efficient, accessible, and secure user experience. The Team Lead provides functional leadership to Web Developers in the design and implementation of the technologies to support the Gallery’s digital assets. This role works cross functionally with other departments to ensure that engagement with the Gallery’s diverse audiences is maximized through web and media channels.

Requirements

  • University degree in computer science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; with at least 1–2 years in a team lead, technical lead, or senior supervisory role.

  • Superior knowledge of and experience with AWS, CloudFlare, Bitbucket, Drupal, PHP, ReactJS, NodeJS, MS Azure.

  • Experience in transitioning to AI-driven features (such as personalized curation, intelligent artwork tagging, and generative AI experiences).

  • Experience handling complex media pipelines, including image optimization CDN integration, lazy loading

  • CMS Mastery: Deep understanding of headless CMS architectures and enterprise e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, custom frameworks).

  • DevOps & Security: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, and stringent data security practices.

  • Excellent Knowledge of Canadian government digital accessibility standards

  • Good knowledge of and experience with the older Drupal content management system;

  • Good Knowledge of API development;

  • Knowledge of MailChimp list management;

  • Good Knowledge of the Google Analytics statistics;
