What you’ll be doing

The Global Technology, Data and Artificial Intelligence (GTDAI) team at CIBC is responsible for delivering scalable, secure, and modern technology solutions that enable innovation across the enterprise. By integrating modern technology, data intelligence, and AI capabilities, GTDAI supports the bank’s digital transformation strategy and helps deliver exceptional client and employee experiences. As the Director, Data Engineering , you’ll lead the delivery and evolution of enterprise data engineering solutions supporting scalable and reliable data capabilities across the organization. You’ll work closely with business, platform, and technology teams to develop modern data pipelines, engineering standards, and platform capabilities that enable trusted analytics and AI initiatives. This role will help drive engineering excellence, operational reliability, and continuous improvement across enterprise data engineering practices.

How you’ll succeed

  • Leadership – Lead and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers while fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Data Engineering – Support the design, development, and maintenance of scalable enterprise data engineering solutions, pipelines, and frameworks.
  • Delivery Excellence – Ensure the delivery of reliable, secure, and high-quality data solutions aligned to business and technology objectives.
  • Engineering Practices – Drive adoption of modern engineering standards, observability, monitoring, operational support, and platform reliability practices.
  • Partnership – Collaborate with architecture, platform, governance, and business teams to deliver scalable and trusted enterprise data capabilities.
  • Transformation – Contribute to enterprise modernization initiatives supporting analytics, operational efficiency, and AI enablement across the organization.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 7+ years of progressive experience in. data engineering, enterprise data platforms, or related technology leadership roles. You have strong expertise in enterprise data engineering, ETL/ELT frameworks, distributed data processing, metadata management, and scalable data solutions. You can demonstrate hands-on experience with technologies such as Python, Java, Scala, SQL, and modern cloud-based data ecosystems. You understand modern engineering practices including monitoring, observability, automation, incident management, and operational support models.
  • You're passionate about people. You have strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with experience leading technical teams and enterprise delivery initiatives.
