Position Overview EcoLogic is seeking an IT and Systems Administrator to help build, maintain, and improve reliable and secure computing infrastructure across the organization. This is a hands-on role with significant responsibility and opportunity for growth, supporting both strategic infrastructure initiatives and day-to-day IT operations. A key focus of the role will be evaluating EcoLogic’s current data storage and management systems, identifying opportunities for improvement, and leading the transition to a scalable and maintainable data architecture that supports the needs of our GIS, modelling, environmental, and archaeological teams. The successful candidate will bring experience with cloud platforms, network storage, document collaboration systems, and enterprise IT administration. In addition to infrastructure development and maintenance, the role will provide end-user support, oversee device procurement and deployment, manage software licensing and security, and contribute to the development of database and systems solutions that support project delivery and operational efficiency.

Location EcoLogic has offices in Burnaby, Lillooet, and Prince George, and team members working remotely across British Columbia and Alberta. Preference will be given to candidates based in Prince George or the Lower Mainland of BC; however, we welcome applications from all qualified individuals. Candidates with additional skill sets that complement the focal area or other aspects of environmental consulting are encouraged to highlight them in their application. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements

Data Storage Infrastructure A key near-term priority will be evaluating EcoLogic's current data infrastructure, identifying gaps, and leading the transition to a more robust and maintainable system. This will likely involve a multi-tiered approach — balancing accessibility for non-technical staff with the performance requirements of our GIS and modelling workflows. The ideal candidate would be familiar with modern data management options including cloud platforms, local network storage, and backup strategies, and will be able to recommend and implement solutions appropriate to our needs. Ongoing responsibilities will include staff training, documentation, and system maintenance. Other responsibilities within this area include: Auditing and rationalizing the existing file structure prior to migration. Configuring backup and disaster recovery across all data management systems. Developing data organization standards, lifecycle policies, and documentation so the new architecture remains maintainable. Supporting ongoing storage monitoring and troubleshooting data access issues across technical and non-technical staff. Computer Support and Device Management Purchase, configure, and deployment of desktop and laptop systems across Windows and macOS, and tablets for field staff. Software installations, updates, patching, and licensing compliance, including ESRI/ArcGIS, Microsoft 365, and other enterprise tools. Hardware and software troubleshooting for end users across multiple office locations. Mobile device management and peripheral support. Security Management of endpoint security, antivirus, and security software across the organization. Implementation and enforcement of security best practices, including access controls, password policies, and user permissions. Monitoring for security incidents and coordinating response. Ensuring compliance with data handling requirements relevant to our client base, which includes Indigenous communities and government agencies.

Minimum Skills and Experience Diploma or certificate from an accredited technical college in IT support, network administration, or a related field (or equivalent demonstrated experience). Three years of experience or demonstrated equivalent through project work. Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration, including SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams configuration and governance. Solid working knowledge of Windows systems administration; functional familiarity with macOS and iOS/iPadOS. Understanding of data backup, storage architecture, and data lifecycle concepts, including the distinction between sync, backup, and archival. Familiarity with basic networking concepts and troubleshooting. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical staff, document procedures, and maintain organized records.

Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, Google Cloud; familiarity with both SMB-based file shares and object storage, including when each is appropriate. Experience planning or executing data migrations, e.g., from consumer-grade sync platforms (Dropbox, Google Drive) to enterprise environments. Understanding of ArcGIS-specific storage requirements. Familiarity with NAS hardware and SMB network share configuration for multi-user environments. Familiarity with SQL databases and basic query writing; experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS or spatial databases would be a strong asset.
