Located in Calgary, Foundations for the Future Charter Academy (FFCA) is the largest public
charter school in Alberta, serving over 4000 students in eight campuses throughout the city. We
offer educational programming through a distinctive Direct Instruction Teaching and Learning
Framework (DITLF) that has been refined and developed within the Alberta context for students
from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our mission is to provide a safe and caring environment where

Position Summary
The IT Systems Administrator is a senior technical role responsible for the administration,
integration, operation and governance of FFCA’s enterprise systems, identity platforms, and
data flows across the organization.
Reporting to the Director of Technology, this role combines sysadmin-level responsibilities,
enterprise application support, and data governance oversight to ensure FFCA’s systems are
reliable, secure, and aligned with operational and regulatory requirements. This role serves as
the primary technical steward for how data moves between systems, how identities are
provisioned and governed, and how enterprise platforms securely operate at scale across
multiple campuses.
Responsibilities
- Systems Administration & Identity Management
a. Administer and maintain core directory and identity systems, including:
i. Active Directory
ii. Microsoft Entra ID
iii. Google Workspace
b. Manage and maintain identity lifecycle processes:
i. Account provisioning, role changes, transfers, and deprovisioning
ii. Student, staff, and contractor identity workflows
c. Support and maintain directory synchronization tooling (e.g., Entra Connect,
Google Sync)
d. Troubleshoot complex authentication, authorization, and access issues
e. Enforce least-privilege access and role-based access control across systems
f. Maintain system documentation, scripts, data, and configuration standards
i. Architecture diagrams
ii. Integration maps
iii. System dependency documentation
- Enterprise Applications & Tier-3 Support
a. Provide Tier-3 escalation support for enterprise platforms, including:
i. PowerSchool (SIS)
ii. Rycor, Atrieve, LINQ systems
iii. Edsby, EduLog, PASI, School Messenger
iv. Follett Destiny and other instructional/business systems
b. Serve as technical liaison with vendors for advanced troubleshooting
c. Coordinate upgrades, maintenance windows, and system changes
d. Ensure system configurations align with divisional standards and policies
- Enterprise Data Governance & Stewardship
a. Act as technical owner for enterprise data flow and integrity across systems
b. Through consultation with key stakeholders, maintain and evolve FFCA’s
System Integration Map.
c. Monitor and improve data quality, consistency, and timeliness
d. Identify and mitigate risks related to:
i. Manual data transfers
ii. Legacy scripts
iii. One-off integrations
e. Support compliance with Alberta privacy legislation and FFCA data governance
policies
f. Define, implement, and operationalize data standards, classification
frameworks, and retention practices across enterprise systems in alignment
with FFCA practices and procedures
g. This role directly addresses FFCA’s current reliance on manual, legacy, and
vendor-managed data synchronizations across systems
- Data Integration & Automation
a. Collaborate with FFCA administration and leadership, support, maintain, and
modernize system integrations, including:
i. SIS-driven data exports/imports
ii. API-based and file-based integrations
iii. PowerQuery, scripted, and vendor-provided connectors
b. Troubleshoot data flow failures and reconciliation issues
c. Identify high-risk manual data processes and lead their redesign into
resilient, monitored, auditable automations that improve reliability, security, and
efficiency
d. Maintain documentation for all data flows and integration dependencies
e. Ensure privacy standards and legislation requirements are met or exceeded
- Service Management & Continuous Improvement
a. Develop and maintain:
i. Knowledge base articles
ii. Standard operating procedures
iii. Change and incident documentation
b. Support change management and post-incident reviews
c. Standardize routine enterprise processes through documentation and
implementation
- Project Delivery & Technical Enablement
a. Lead or co-lead small-to-medium projects related to:
i. Systems modernization
ii. Identity improvements
iii. Data integration enhancements
b. Provide technical execution support on large divisional initiatives
c. Support testing, rollout, documentation, and staff readiness
d. Translate complex technical dependencies into actionable project insights
Required Education and Training

Post-secondary education in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field preferred

5+ years’ experience in a sysadmin, systems analyst, or enterprise IT role
-
Relevant industry certifications (e.g. Microsoft, Google, Identity or Security)
-
Experience in K-12 or public-sector environments preferred
-
Demonstrated experience with:
o Enterprise application support for educational systems (SIS/ERP systems)
o Experience in maintaining or refactoring legacy scripts or integrations
Desired Knowledge and Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and work closely with technical and non-technical
stakeholders

Demonstrated experience with Active Directory, Entra, and Azure cloud platforms

Experience with Microsoft Intune / Endpoint Manager, Conditional Access, and
Autopilot provisioning
- Demonstrated experience with scripting, automation, and orchestration, including
PowerShell automation
- Working knowledge of API authentication, including OAuth, service
accounts, Data transformation and systems integration
- Demonstrated understanding of information security frameworks and controls (e.g.,
NIST, CIS)

Demonstrated understanding of business continuity practices

Experience clearly documenting systems and integrations

Working knowledge of TCP/IP and routing

Working knowledge of DNS and DHCP architecture

Working knowledge of VLAN concepts and network authentication concepts
(802.1X)
- Demonstrated experience with SQL Server or Azure SQL administration, including
basic query writing and troubleshooting

Experience with REST API integrations and scheduled automation workflows

Experience with CSV, XML, and JSON workflows

Familiarity with data governance concepts and public-sector privacy legislation
requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge or experience using generative AI platforms responsibly
to improve operations
- Knowledge of ITIL, service management, project management, and enterprise
architecture concepts

Microsoft 365 and/or Google Workspace administration

Automation and orchestration experience
Annual Salary: $79,955 – $99,861
