The Application Specialist plays a key role in supporting and evolving Nutrien’s core enterprise applications that underpin critical business operations. This role combines strong hands-on technical expertise with the ability to partner closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements, investigate issues, and deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

The successful candidate will bring both deep application knowledge along with practical business analysis skills, enabling them to bridge the gap between business needs and technical implementation while ensuring the stability and integrity of Nutrien’s core systems. Experience with Software AG Adabas and Natural is considered an asset.

What You'll Do:

  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe solutions using Software AG Natural programming language, following established Nutrien and industry standards for code management, testing, and lifecycle control
  • Support applications through the full lifecycle, including analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing sustainable fixes
  • Contribute to the ongoing reliability, performance, and maintainability of mission critical mainframe systems
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and database teams to ensure performance, availability, and data integrity
  • Support modernization and integration initiatives while maintaining stability of the core platform
  • Design and support integrations between mainframe applications and external systems
  • Partner with integration and architecture teams to ensure solutions align with Nutrien’s enterprise integration strategy
  • Act as a trusted partner between business stakeholders, application teams, and technology partners
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non technical audiences, translating complex concepts into clear, actionable information
  • Contribute to application documentation, knowledge sharing, and operational readiness materials
  • Support team objectives related to operational excellence, risk management, and continuous improvement
  • General understanding of the business processes and practices supported by supply chain application systems and their application to Nutrien capabilities

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience
  • 6-8 years of related experience
  • Strong hands-on experience developing and supporting applications using Software AG Natural programming language is preferred
  • Solid understanding of application lifecycle management, including coding standards, testing practices, and maintenance
  • Working knowledge of ADABAS DB and JCL in an enterprise production environment is preferred
  • Proven experience collaborating with business stakeholders and technical teams to deliver effective solutions
