About the role
What is OmaScan?
OmaScan is a healthtech startup dedicated to helping seniors and people with accessibility challenges live longer, safer, more independent lives at home.
We are doing that by reinventing the home assessment workflow. Right now, getting a home assessed for modifications is slow and manual. Clinicians spend hours measuring, documenting, and chasing paperwork, while clients wait months on waitlists.
We are building an AI assistant that comes with the assessor, and automates the paperwork so that assessors can spend more time on what matters: the client.
OmaScan is a very early stage company. You will help shape the product and the engineering culture.
The Role We are looking for a strong AI engineer to own the post assessment agentic workflow. This means turning raw assessment data (dictations, photos, 3D scans) into accurate, structured, clinician-ready output, and managing post assessment follow-up.
You would be responsible for: Ingesting messy inputs (dictation, photos, measurements, 3D scans) and turning it into clean, structured data. Generating reports that fill the clinic's existing templates, plus quick summaries an assessor can fire off to a client, vendor, or colleague. Building the agentic post-assessment follow up workflows. Handling health data correctly, safely, and in line with privacy regulations. You'll also weigh in on product, sit in on customer calls, and work alongside our existing engineers and outside contractors. This role involves a lot of freedom and a lot of responsibility. There is also the opportunity for travel to pilot sites and conferences.
Who this is for You should apply if: You have experience with retrieval, structured outputs, messy multimodal input, and output evaluation. You've shipped LLM systems into production. You've owned something end to end and can make architecture calls on your own. You've worked in fast paced environments or startups (bonus if it was healthtech). You move fast, ship, and want the upside and ownership of a startup. You care about building something that genuinely helps people.
Technical expectations Our stack: TypeScript, NestJS, AWS, React.
You should have strong experience with: Building and shipping production software end to end LLM application development: prompting, structured outputs, retrieval, and evaluation Backend and API design Full stack development Product sense, and the judgment to make product calls without being told what to build
Bonus: Multimodal AI (vision, audio, transcription) Agentic and tool using systems (MCP or similar) Healthcare or other regulated industry experience 3D data ingestion and pipelines, and ThreeJS AWS infrastructure depth
The honest truth We have raised funding and have real pilots across Canada, but we are early and there is a lot to build. This is a founding-level role with founding equity, a competitive salary, and the upside that comes with getting in early. If you want a safe, defined job at a big company, this is not it.
Location: Remote/Hybrid in St. John's, NL, or Toronto, ON

Bonus Points: Tell us, in 2 to 3 sentences each (without using AI):
The most interesting AI project you have built. Why this role interests you specifically.
