About the role
Position Overview The Cloud Administrator is responsible for the administration, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of enterprise cloud environments, with a strong focus on Microsoft Azure and Azure VMware Solution (AVS). The role ensures secure, reliable, scalable, and compliant cloud infrastructure services while supporting organizational governance, security, and operational requirements. Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Infrastructure Administration Administer and support Azure resources including: Virtual Machines (VMs) Networking Storage Identity services Backup solutions Monitoring platforms Support Azure VMware Solution (AVS) environments and hybrid cloud connectivity. Monitor infrastructure performance, availability, and capacity. Proactively identify and resolve operational issues. Perform incident management, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
- Security and Access Management Implement and maintain Azure security controls: Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) Conditional Access Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Manage administrative privileges using least-privilege principles. Support vulnerability management and remediation activities. Administer Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD): Users Groups Service Principals Assist with Privileged Identity Management (PIM) and governance initiatives. Implement security baselines, logging, and audit configurations. Support compliance audits and evidence collection activities. Ensure security consistency across Azure and AVS-connected environments.
- Automation and Configuration Management Develop and maintain infrastructure automation using: PowerShell Azure CLI ARM Templates Bicep Terraform Standardize deployments and configurations using enterprise landing-zone templates. Promote Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices and automation-first approaches.
- Subscription and Governance Management Manage: Azure subscriptions Resource groups Management group hierarchies Implement and maintain: Azure Policies Naming standards Tagging compliance Ensure workloads are deployed into approved landing zones and comply with governance standards.
- Azure Native Services Administration Manage Azure IaaS and PaaS services, including: Virtual Machines App Services Storage Services Backup and Disaster Recovery Networking (VNETs, NSGs, DNS, Azure Firewall) Monitor and optimize: Performance Availability Cost efficiency Support cloud-native security and compliance initiatives.
- Integration and Operational Support Collaborate with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) supporting day-to-day cloud operations. Integrate cloud services with ITSM processes: Incident Management Change Management Problem Management Support migration initiatives from on-premises environments to Azure and AVS platforms.
- Documentation and Governance Create and maintain: Technical documentation Runbooks Operational procedures Ensure compliance with organizational standards and security policies. Participate in architecture reviews, change control processes, and governance activities. Mandatory Qualifications The resource must possess: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of infrastructure administration experience. Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on Microsoft Azure experience. Experience with Azure cloud service models: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Platform as a Service (PaaS) Software as a Service (SaaS) Preferred Qualifications Experience with Azure VMware Solution (AVS). Cloud cost optimization and FinOps experience. Experience with Identity Governance and Privileged Identity Management (PIM). Advanced Microsoft Entra ID knowledge. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Experience with cloud monitoring and incident response. Experience working within public sector or regulated environments.
