This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only.

Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Multi-Media Specialist (Specialist) develops social marketing initiatives based on departmental priorities for the territory and provides a full range of communications functions and services. The Specialist assists in managing health related creative contracts related, but not limited to social marketing initiates, mass media campaigns, resource development, graphic design, and social media messaging. 

The primary responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensuring Health’s websites and file databases are up-to-date and maintained to ensure efficient internal communication processes;
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating communications strategies and plans ensuring their consistency with corporate and program goals and priorities;
  • Maintaining departmental websites and databases;
  • Writing, editing or reviewing speeches for Minister, Deputy Minister and others;
  • Coordinating and planning communications for special events such as photo opportunities, banquettes, campaign launches, etc…
  • In collaboration with other departments, create a social media posting calendar for the department that promotes Health’s programming and initiatives;
  • Preparing and submitting translation requests on behalf of the department staff for all four of Nunavut’s official languages: Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, French and English. 

The knowledge, skills and abilities for this position are usually acquired through a recognized diploma in multi-media design and production, communications, marketing, advertising or related along with two (2) years’ experience in a communications environment preferably in multi-media, news media, advertising, marketing, or public relations.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
