About the role
SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Data Scientist leads and conducts analysis on organization-wide data to uncover trends and conduct predictive analytics to deliver data-driven solutions to business problems. This position will be responsible to create statistical models, algorithms, and other data products that enable higher-level analytics to forecast business results. The Data Scientist will leverage advanced analytic capabilities through statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence to provide value-added insights to improve business outcomes.
Position Details
- Non-union. This position is permanent full time.
Key Accountabilities
- Identify data patterns and create predictive models to forecast future events in the business.
- Build analytics tools utilizing the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer experience, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics.
- Identify patterns, build algorithms, create predictive modelling, run statistical simulations, conduct causality experiments and A/B testing to support business areas in implementation of predictive analytics to drive actionable results.
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet both functional and non-functional business requirements.
- Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
- Work with stakeholders, including the Executive, to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data and information needs, e.g., reports, data visualizations and predictive and prescriptive analytical tools.
- Provide training and information sharing sessions to internal stakeholders.
- Conduct data wrangling, data mining, and preparation.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in computer science, information systems, engineering, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Master’s degree or PHD in statistics, math, computer science or another quantitative field preferred.
- Four (4) years in a data analytics or data scientist role with demonstrated projects using advanced analytics methods.
- Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL), SSIS as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
- Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Experience using Python to analyze data.
- Experience in big data tools and cloud services is considered an asset.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams and presenting ideas to stakeholders.
- Ability to work on a team while building and maintaining effective relationships.
- Must have a continuing record of professional development and continuous learning.
A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may also be considered.
