As a Data Strategist reporting to the Team Lead, Operations Strategy & Performance you will lead the development, enhancement, and optimization of data and analytics for the Calgary Transit Operations division. You will translate workforce data into actionable strategies to directly improve efficiency, productivity, and business outcomes. You will ensure the accuracy, consistency, and usability of data from the Calgary Transit workforce management system and other systems. Your focus will be to enable data driven decision making that informs leaders on trends, forecasts, and opportunities to improve operational effectiveness. Primary duties include:

  • Support workforce planning and service delivery commitments by analyzing workforce availability trends.
  • Provide data-informed recommendations based on the development and analysis of key performance indicators, data and trend analysis.
  • Develop forecasting and capacity models that support long-term workforce planning.
  • Integrate cross corporate data sets and dashboards to meet business unit outcomes and corporate objectives.
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive dashboards using Power Business Intelligence (BI), as well as reoccurring and ad-hoc reports to provide insight into operational performance.
  • Coordinate cross functional projects using project management skills and tools to manage timelines, risks, and deliverables.
  • Provide actionable insights that support workforce planning, resource allocation, and performance improvement strategies.
  • Ensure data integrity, accuracy, consistency and governance across systems.
  • Report on project status, milestones, risks, and offer solutions for issues that impact project delivery.
  • Lead and support divisional business process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multiples business units to enhance quality, consistency, and effectiveness of data inputs and usage.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Economics or a related degree in business, finance, or technology/computer science.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in business and data analysis.
  • Proficient in PowerBI, Structured Query Language (SQL), Programming, data modelling or other data analytics and visualization software.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Proven experience leading complex, cross functional projects in a fast paced and political environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and facilitate with internal and external partners while promoting a culture of data accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Success in this position requires strategic and critical thinkings skills and problem-solving skills.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees.
