First Canadian Financial Group is a vertically integrated group benefits carrier serving Canadian employers with a modern, proprietary benefits administration platform. As we continuously evolve our system, releasing new features, UAT builds, and production updates, we are looking for a detail-oriented Test Automation Specialist to safeguard the quality and stability of our platform.
In this role, you will be responsible for executing automated regression test scripts across our UAT and demo environments, validating that new development doesn't break existing functionality.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Execute automated regression test scripts following each development release, hotfix, or feature deployment in UAT and demo environments.
- Monitor test results, triage failures, and clearly document defects with reproducible steps, screenshots, and environment details.
- Maintain and organize test scripts, test cases, and test data to keep the regression suite current as the system evolves.
- Collaborate with business analysts to understand new features, functional changes, and business rules that require updated or expanded test coverage.
- Communicate test outcomes and defect status to the development team, facilitating timely resolution and re-testing.
- Participate in release readiness reviews, providing a clear go/no-go quality assessment based on regression results.
- Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, test efficiency, and automation tooling.
- Maintain regression testing logs and traceability documentation in accordance with internal QA standards.
- Flag recurring defect patterns or systemic issues and escalate appropriately.
- Other duties as required.
Essential Responsibilities:
- 2+ years of experience in software quality assurance or testing, with direct hands-on experience running automated test scripts.
- Familiarity with test automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of regression testing concepts, test lifecycle, and defect management workflows
- Experience working in UAT and staging/demo environments, with a clear grasp of environment-specific testing considerations
- Strong written communication skills — able to document defects, test results, and status updates clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Highly organized and methodical, with the ability to manage multiple test cycles across concurrent releases
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with internal stakeholders and external development partners
- Experience in insurance, employee benefits, financial services, or other regulated industries is an asset.
- Familiarity with group benefits insurance, claims and administration is an asset.
- Experience with test management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Azure DevOps) is an asset.
- Exposure to API testing tools (e.g., Postman) for validating back-end service behaviour is an asset.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and how automated testing integrates into deployment workflows is an asset.
