Network Patching SME Toronto, ON 3 days Contract Role Job Title: Network Patching Subject Matter Expert (SME) Role Overview The Network Patching SME serves as the ultimate technical authority for vulnerability remediation and firmware maintenance across global network infrastructures. This role requires advanced L3 engineering expertise to analyze vulnerabilities, orchestrate complex rollouts, and execute disaster recovery rollbacks without impacting business operations. Core Responsibilities Vulnerability Assessment: Analyze critical Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) alerts to determine infrastructure impact. Patch Orchestration: Author detailed Method of Procedure (MOP) documentation and technical rollback frameworks. Lifecycle Management: Schedule and execute system maintenance, firmware upgrades, and emergency hotfixes. Risk & Change Governance: Defend patching impact roadmaps during strict corporate Change Advisory Board (CAB) reviews. L3 Escalation Support: Troubleshoot complex network failures stemming from patch deployment or firmware incompatibilities. Automation Engineering: Script deployment workflows using automated configuration management tools to scale rollouts. Vendor Coordination: Partner with OEMs to remediate edge-case bugs, software defects, and zero-day threats. Technical Requirements Core Hardware: Deep operational mastery of Cisco (IOS-XE/NX-OS/ACI), Arista, Juniper, and Aruba architectures. Security Platforms: Hands-on experience updating enterprise firewalls, including Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Check Point. Patch & VM Tools: Proficiency with vulnerability systems (Qualys, Tenable) and patch management utilities. Automation Frameworks: Practical scripting experience utilizing Python, Ansible, or specialized network engines. Protocols & Analysis: Expert traffic validation using Wireshark and deep routing protocol knowledge (BGP, OSPF, VXLAN). Qualifications & Experience Experience: Minimum of 7+ years in enterprise network administration, with 3+ years strictly focused on infrastructure patching at scale. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience. Certifications: Higher-tier industry credentials preferred, such as CCNP Enterprise, CCIE, or PCNSE
