This full-time position is based out of the Wolf Feedstock Separation Facility (WFS) in Sturgeon County, Alberta. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Automation Specialist provides professional technical support for the programming, configuration, maintenance, and managed modification of industrial automation, information, and control systems across all Wolf NGL facilities. The role is responsible for implementing continuous improvement initiatives and optimizing control systems, communications networks, and associated standards in collaboration with Maintenance, Operations, and Corporate IT teams. The Automation Specialist also works closely with Engineering to develop and implement strategies that maximize system reliability and ensure the safe operation of facilities.
Key Responsibilities Configure, maintain, troubleshoot & promote continuous improvements to process control software systems, including the distributed control system (DCS), PLCs, asset management & leak detection software, analytical & measurement related equipment Support Facility Operations by improving system reliability & minimizing downtime with safety as the primary focus Maintain telecom systems for SCADA & corporate network and all related hardware & equipment Provide on-site support for NGL business unit related IT issues Adhere to cyber security standards, and facilitation of periodic system penetration testing Interpret P&IDs, shutdown keys, electrical schematics, and control narratives Participate in the MOC process for operational modifications to the automation & control systems Consult with Operations and Engineering on technical issues pertaining to automation, including designs, estimates and scheduling relating to project commitments and maintenance objectives Collaborate with planning teams to organize & procure materials for scheduled outages Organize and supervise 3rd party automation contractors, development and review of scope of work proposals Oversee project work from an automation perspective, including witnessing system installation, testing (FAT/SAT), and commissioning Participate in facility alarm management processes Create, maintain & verify control system Engineering / Maintenance standards and procedures Provide technical support for peripheral control center video and security systems Ability to identify and communicate deficiencies and process deviations through work orders and Hazard IDs. Responsible for reviewing, maintaining and completing the automation work orders Remains competent through yearly review of Maintenance Standards and Procedures Assist and participate in EHS meetings, inspections, and all other EHS requirements Ability to respond to operational impacting control system issues outside of regular work hours Will be required to work away from home for extended periods Qualifications and Experience
Education: Journeyman Instrumentation certification or industry relevant equivalent training and experience related to Automation and control systems from an approved educational institution. A dual ticket will be considered an asset
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of control system experience, with preference given to candidates with direct NGL facility experience Knowledge and experience of industry related safe work practices Experience with the DeltaV Live DCS, Allen Bradley PLC’s, Autosol SCADA systems, AMS, ATMOS leak detection, Omni Flow Computers and general telecom systems would be an asset Knowledge of OT system networking and cyber security principles Low and Medium voltage system experience would also be an asset Skills: Must possess strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Must consistently strive for personal and operational improvement including the ability to upgrade required skills and competencies Results orientated with the ability to work without supervision and can manage many concurrent unrelated activities Ability to perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting within a live process facility environment Superior computer skills Clean driving record Industry related Safety training Rewards Competitive compensation with eligibility in our bonus programs Comprehensive benefits Employer matched savings plan Parental leave top-up Overtime eligibility Interested candidates should apply to www.wolfmidstream.com.
