This is a highly visible role offering exposure to senior leadership and key business stakeholders across the organization. Our client is looking for a strong Senior SQL Data Analyst who can work with large, complex datasets, identify trends and business drivers, and translate analysis into clear, actionable insights for the business. This opportunity is ideal for someone who combines advanced SQL and analytical capability with polished communication skills, strong business acumen, and the confidence to present findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Principal tasks and responsibilities include:
- Write complex SQL queries to extract, validate, analyze, and interpret large volumes of business and operational data.
- Analyze revenue, pricing, productivity, profitability, utilization, and other key business performance metrics to support decision-making and performance improvement.
- Identify trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities in the data, and provide actionable recommendations to business leaders.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc reporting packages, dashboards, scorecards, and presentations for senior leadership.
- Translate raw data into meaningful business insights that can be clearly understood by both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Partner closely with leadership, finance, operations, and other business groups to understand reporting needs and answer key business questions through data.
- Support strategic analysis, business planning, and performance reviews by delivering data-driven insight and thoughtful commentary.
- Build, maintain, and enhance dashboards, management reporting tools, and automated reporting solutions.
- Validate data integrity, troubleshoot reporting issues, and help improve the quality, consistency, and accessibility of business data.
- Support business intelligence, reporting automation, and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
- Present findings, trends, and recommendations in a polished, concise, and business-friendly manner to senior stakeholders.
- Participate in special projects and ad hoc analytical initiatives requiring a strong mix of technical skill, business judgment, and communication. Qualifications and pre-requisites:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Finance, or a related field.
- Strong academic background preferred. Candidates from well-regarded Canadian universities such as Western, Queen's, Laurier, Waterloo, McMaster, University of Toronto, Toronto Metropolitan, or other prominent Ontario / GTA schools would be of particular interest.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in data analysis, business intelligence, reporting, commercial analytics, business insights, or a related analytical role.
- Advanced SQL skills are a must. This role requires someone who can independently write complex queries, pull and manipulate large datasets, validate outputs, and use data to solve business problems.
- Strong experience analyzing large datasets and turning complex information into clear, relevant, and actionable insights for the business.
- Experience with Power BI, Excel, and other reporting / visualization tools. Exposure to VBA, Python, Tableau, or similar tools would be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication skills are a must. This role requires someone who can confidently and clearly explain analysis, trends, and recommendations to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
- Must be able to bridge the gap between data and the business - not just run reports, but clearly speak to what the data means, why it matters, and what actions should be taken.
- Strong presentation skills, executive presence, and the ability to simplify complex information into a clear and compelling message.
- We would be especially interested in candidates who have demonstrated strong communication and presentation ability through debate teams, Toastmasters, case competitions, client-facing roles, or other environments that reflect strong verbal communication and presence.
- Strong critical thinking, curiosity, and problem-solving ability, with the instinct to dig into root causes and connect data back to business performance.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a visible role with accountability to senior stakeholders.
