Job Description

GDMS-C is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our Coalition and Joint Interoperability team working to support Land Command Support System (LCSS) in Ottawa, Canada. The Land Command Support System (LCSS) is the system of systems that primarily supports the Canadian Army in operations by providing commanders with the information services required to make effective and timely command and control decisions about their forces. It is an interconnected network of digital communications and information systems by which the data needed to plan, direct and control tactical and operations is communicated, stored, processed and displayed.

In this role, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining systems that enable seamless communication and data exchange across coalition and joint military operations. You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure interoperability standards are met and systems integrate effectively across diverse platforms and environments.

Responsibilities

Engineer and optimize IP network systems, including development of diagnostic methodologies, design of VLAN architectures, and validation frameworks for Cisco Systems network devices and VoIP platforms to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability. Support software verification and integration engineering activities to ensure interoperability across multiple platforms and stakeholders, run system‑level test suites, and formally document test results, and analysis. Review and update system design documents, use-cases and procedures. Collaborate with coalition partners and internal teams to identify interoperability challenges and develop solutions. Participate in team document reviews and provide feedback. Participate in interoperability assessments and compliance reviews against established standards and protocols. Devise and implement correction actions in the software test environment in Linux, Windows, Virtual Machines. Use requirements, configuration management and test management tools (e.g., JIRA/Confluence, Ansible, Python Scripts)

Qualifications

What You Need to Have to Succeed

Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Computer Science/Applied Science or related technical/scientific degree. Hands on experience (co-op, internship or entry-level role) with: Linux (Ubuntu or RedHat) and Windows Server/Desktop environments Basic scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation or data processing Documenting test results and presenting findings to technical audience Understanding of networking technologies and protocols Strong interest in networked computer systems and desire to grow in this field Strong written and oral communications skills Ability to work effectively in collaborative, fast-moving Agile team Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work through complex technical challenges Experience working with or familiarity with AI/ML models is preferred. Familiar with Scrum or SAFe Framework and ceremonies Exposure to defence industry or DND/CAF environments, especially LCSS/LC4ISR communication systems Experience with automation tools such as Ansible, Squish and Python Basic Cisco VOIP knowledge and general IP networking concepts Understanding of hypervisors/virtual environments and ability to create/maintain VMs Experience with test and build automation Familiarity with system engineering processes and documentation standards Knowledge of Microsoft PowerShell

Additional Information
