About the role

About the Role

SyncBridge is looking for an Intermediate QA Engineer to join our growing team and take ownership of test coverage for our USB3/Video-over-Ethernet extenders products and support tools.

Reporting to the Director of Software Engineering, this role sits at the intersection of three groups: our local Burnaby engineering team, our remote customer support and test team in India, and our end customers. You'll work closely with engineering to build out test plans, coordinate day-to-day test execution with the team in India, and personally drive testing of new features and complex scenarios. When issues come up in the field that require deeper investigation, you'll be the bridge that escalates Level 3 issues back to engineering with the context they need to resolve them quickly.

Because the India team works on-site in our Mohali / Chandigarh lab and cannot easily travel to Vancouver, you will periodically travel to the SyncBridge India office to deliver in-person training, onboarding, and hands-on knowledge transfer. This is an important part of the role, especially during the India team's initial ramp-up.

We care more about curiosity, adaptability, and a willingness to learn than about a specific number of years on a resume. A strong new grad with the right mindset is just as welcome as someone with a few years of QA experience under their belt.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000 CAD annually plus benefits, depending on experience.

Travel: Periodic international travel to the SyncBridge India office to train and support the team there.

What You'll Do

Build Test Plans with Engineering Partner with the local engineering team to understand new features, design changes, and release goals. Translate that understanding into clear, practical test plans that cover functional, regression, and edge-case scenarios. Maintain and evolve a living test plan library that the broader team can rely on.

Drive Test Coverage with the India Team Work daily with the remote customer support and test team in India to assign, track, and complete test coverage. Provide clear instructions, walkthroughs, and acceptance criteria so the team in India can execute effectively across time zones. Review test results, follow up on gaps, and make sure coverage targets are actually met — not just reported. Run a portion of testing yourself, especially for new, complex, or hardware-dependent scenarios. Travel to the SyncBridge India office periodically to deliver in-person training, onboarding, and hands-on knowledge transfer to the India team.

Handle Level 3 Issues with Engineering Triage issues escalated from customer support and the test team in India. Reproduce problems, isolate root causes where possible, and gather logs, configurations, and reproduction steps. Bring well-scoped Level 3 issues to the local engineering team and work alongside them until resolution. Feed lessons learned back into the test plans so the same issues don't reach customers twice.

Support Quality Across the Product Lifecycle Help validate releases of products, internal tools and customer-facing extender tools before they ship. Contribute to test automation where it makes sense (Python-based, pytest preferred). Suggest steady improvements to how we test — tools, documentation, processes.

What Success Looks Like

In your first 6-12 months, you will: Be the go-to person for test plans on active engineering projects. Have a smooth, predictable working rhythm with the team in India, with clear coverage targets being met release over release. Reduce the noise on engineering by filtering and scoping Level 3 issues before they land on a developer's desk. Steadily expand test coverage on the products and tools customers rely on most.

What You Bring

Required A degree or diploma in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. A genuine interest in software and hardware (Product) quality and a willingness to dig into problems until you understand them. Strong communication skills — written and verbal — especially across time zones and cultures. Comfort working with both engineers and non-engineers, and translating between them. Basic scripting ability in Python (or strong willingness to learn quickly). Organized, dependable, and able to keep multiple workstreams moving without dropping them. Willingness and ability to travel overseas (primarily to the SyncBridge India office) to deliver in-person training and on-site support to the India team. Travel will be periodic throughout the year and most concentrated during the India team's initial ramp-up. A valid passport (or willingness to obtain one promptly) and eligibility to travel internationally.

Nice to Have 1-4 years of QA, test, or software engineering experience. New grads with the right attitude are welcome to apply. Hands-on experience with pytest or another automated test framework. Experience testing GUIs, APIs, or command-line applications. Exposure to hardware-in-the-loop testing, USB, video, or networking products. Experience coordinating work with a remote or offshore team. Familiarity with Bitbucket Pipelines or similar CI/CD tools. Familiarity using hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Prior experience training, mentoring, or onboarding new team members.

What Matters Most

Above everything else: the ability to learn, flexibility, and a good attitude. The tools and products will evolve — we want someone who can evolve with them.

Work Environment Hybrid: 3 days/week in our Burnaby office, 2 days at home Close, daily collaboration with a small Burnaby engineering team. Regular working relationship with our customer support and test team in India — expect some overlap hours and clear written communication. Periodic international travel to the SyncBridge India office to train and support the team there — most concentrated during the initial ramp-up. A supportive environment where asking questions is encouraged and learning is part of the job.
