About the role

Strathcona County is seeking a skilled and analytical Fleet Analyst to support the optimization of our fleet operations through strategic analysis, lifecycle planning, and performance reporting.

The Fleet Analyst provides analytical, technical, and operational support to optimize Strathcona County’s fleet performance. This role plays a key part in vehicle lifecycle planning, asset management, performance measurement, and data-driven decision-making to ensure fleet operations are efficient, safe, cost-effective, and aligned with corporate objectives

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and analyze the fleet asset registry, including lifecycle milestones, utilization metrics, warranty timelines, and replacement triggers
  • Support the development of annual and multi-year fleet replacement plans using forecasting and evidence-based recommendations
  • Conduct lifecycle, cost-benefit, and total cost of ownership analyses to support procurement decisions, including lease/rental versus purchase evaluations
  • Monitor fleet industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to support strategic planning and sustainability initiatives
  • Extract, clean, and analyze data from fleet management systems such as AssetWorks
  • Assist in developing dashboards, scorecards, and performance reports for leadership, internal departments, and Council reporting
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
    • Fleet utilization
    • Vehicle reliability
    • Downtime
    • Maintenance backlog
    • Cost per kilometre/hour
    • Fuel and energy consumption
    • Idle time
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve asset performance, reduce operating costs, and enhance operational efficiency
  • Support maintenance planning through analysis of equipment failure trends, preventive maintenance compliance, and work order data
  • Identify and support implementation of operational efficiency improvements, quality assurance initiatives, and process enhancements
  • Troubleshoot data anomalies and recurring equipment issues to support continuous improvement
  • Ensure fleet asset management processes align with Strathcona County policies, industry standards and applicable legislation Provide data-driven support to Fleet Operations and internal departments by interpreting fleet performance, replacement strategies and operational fleet plans

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Engineering Technology, Public Administration, or a related field along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience (with a degree) or 5 years of experience (with a diploma) in fleet operations, asset management, analytics, or a related technical environment
    • a recognized Trades or Journeyperson certification (e.g., Automotive Service Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician) may be accepted as an equivalent qualification
  • Fleet-specific certifications (e.g., NAFA CAFM/CAFS) would be considered an asset
  • Experience in fleet operations, asset management, data analysis, or municipal/public sector operations is considered an asset
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and provide practical recommendations
  • Experience using fleet management systems (e.g., AssetWorks) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with BI/reporting tools such as Power BI is an asset
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to prepare reports and present findings clearly Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple priorities
