Position Title: Senior DSP Firmware Engineer
Department: Inverter Firmware
Compensation: $100,000 – $150,000 + annual bonus
Reports To: Director of Digital Inverter Firmware
Location: Kitchener, Ontario – Hybrid

About the Role:

The Senior DSP Firmware Engineer owns the design, development, optimization, and lifecycle support of real‑time embedded firmware for inverters used in utility‑ energy storage systems. This role requires deep expertise in Texas Instruments DSP platforms, inverter control firmware, and grid‑code compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable DSP firmware architectures for inverters using TI DSP platforms
  • Develop deterministic real‑time control firmware in embedded C, including fast control loops, interrupt handling, and peripheral configuration
  • Translate system, control, and grid‑code requirements into traceable firmware requirements and robust designs
  • Implement inverter features such as grid synchronization, protections, fault handling, diagnostics, and monitoring
  • Support compliance with grid and firmware standards (UL 1741 SB, IEEE 1547, UL 1998) and certification testing activities
  • Collaborate with hardware, controls, systems, and validation teams to ensure system‑level performance and reliability
  • Debug complex firmware issues, perform root‑cause analysis, and optimize performance using lab tools and emulators
  • Participate in firmware architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical risk assessments
  • Maintain clear firmware documentation and contribute to process improvement and release quality

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Educational background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
  • At least 5 years' of experience in professional firmware development experience in embedded or real‑time control systems
  • Expert proficiency with Texas Instruments DSP platforms (e.g., C2000), including ADCs, PWMs, DMA, peripherals, memory management, and bootloaders
  • Ability to optimize execution time, numerical performance, and memory usage for fast control and protection functions
  • Experience with firmware verification strategies, power conversion simulation, Hardware-in-the-Loop and integration testing
  • Hands‑on experience with Code Composer Studio (CCS), debugging, profiling, and emulation
  • Strong embedded C programming skills for real‑time, safety‑critical power electronics applications
