Your Role in Supporting Our Members:
As a Manager, Quality Engineering, you are accountable for delivering quality outcomes for a business workstream. You operate at the intersection of engineering, delivery, and business, ensuring that quality engineering execution translates into predictable, reliable, and production-ready outcomes.
This role goes beyond technical leadership—you are fully accountable for whether quality has been achieved, including release readiness, risk management, and visibility to stakeholders. You lead a team of QE Leads and SDETs, balancing delivery execution, people leadership, and technical oversight to ensure quality is embedded end-to-end in the delivery lifecycle.
This is a Full-time, Permanent role based at our Vancity Head Office and will report directly to the Director, Quality Engineering.

Modern Quality Engineering Practices

What You’ll Bring to the Team:
Experience & Leadership
-
12+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering, or related field
-
Demonstrated experience leading, managing and coaching teams of QE Leads and SDETs, with accountability for both delivery and people development
-
Proven experience owning delivery outcomes in complex, multi-team environments
Technical Expertise
-
Strong programming skills (Python, JavaScript, C#, Java), with the ability to review, guide, and challenge implementation decisions
-
Proven experience designing, evolving, and scaling automation frameworks across multiple teams
-
Deep experience in API-first testing and reducing reliance on UI-heavy approaches, ensuring alignment with modern delivery architecture
-
Experience with AI-powered testing approaches (LLMs, agentic and spec-driven automation), including evaluating where they are effective at scale
-
Strong experience integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines at a delivery system level (not just individual pipelines)
-
Proven capability in automated validation of non-functional requirements (performance, reliability, security) across environments
Quality Engineering Delivery & Decision-Making
-
Demonstrated ability to make delivery trade-offs (coverage vs. speed, risk vs. time-to-market, automation depth vs. execution efficiency)

Experience owning release readiness decisions, backed by clear quality signals and risk assessment
-
Strong understanding of quality gates, success criteria, and outcome-based validation models
-
Ability to ensure that execution across teams translates into predictable quality outcomes
Testing Frameworks & Platforms
-
Experience guiding teams on scalable automation frameworks across API, integration, and UI layers
-
Strong understanding of testing across REST and event-driven systems, distributed systems, microservices architectures
-
Familiarity with modern tooling (Playwright, Cypress, Postman, etc.), with the ability to drive standardization and effective usage across teams
Cloud, DevOps & Operating Model Integration

Experience working within cloud-native and distributed system environments (AWS or Azure, containers such as Docker/Kubernetes)

Strong understanding of how quality integrates into CI/CD pipelines, DevOps, and release engineering practices

Ability to define and enforce a quality operating model within business workstreams

Data-driven approach to measuring and improving quality effectiveness and outcomes (defining and using delivery metrics and KPIs)

Experience interpreting data into clear insights to inform stakeholder decisions

What You’ll Earn:
This role offers a salary range of $125,000 to $169,000 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
