We are searching for a Senior Data Developer to join our Analytics and Innovation team based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Reporting to the Director of Analytics and Innovation, the Senior Data Developer is a senior technical role responsible for building and optimizing the organization’s data platform to support enterprise reporting, analytics, and future AI capabilities.
This role focuses on developing data pipelines, transforming and structuring data, and creating curated datasets and semantic models within Microsoft Fabric.

About the Opportunity
-
Design, build, and maintain data pipelines within Microsoft Fabric to ingest, transform, and structure data from multiple source systems
-
Develop scalable and reliable data workflows to support enterprise reporting and analytics
-
Optimize data pipelines for performance, reliability, and maintainability
-
Design and build curated datasets that support analytics and reporting across the organization
-
Develop data models that promote consistency, reusability, and ease of use for analysts
-
Apply data modeling best practices (e.g., star schema, denormalization where appropriate)

Develop and maintain semantic models (Power BI / Fabric) to enable consistent, trusted reporting
-
Partner with analysts to ensure datasets and models meet business needs and reduce duplication
-
Implement data validation, quality checks, and monitoring within pipelines and datasets
-
Support data governance practices, including documentation, lineage, and metadata management
-
Ensure adherence to data standards, naming conventions, and security requirements
-
Support and execute cloud data migration and modernization efforts
-
Contribute to the ongoing development and optimization of the data platform
-
Assist in evaluating and adopting new data technologies aligned with organizational needs

About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.

Master’s degree in a related field is an asset.
-
7+ years of experience in business intelligence, data engineering, or analytics development.
-
Strong experience working with SSIS, and other ETL tools to build and optimize data pipelines.

Advanced hands-on experience with Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and development of datasets, data models, and semantic layers for Power BI reporting
-
Strong understanding of data warehouse/lakehouse concepts, query optimization, and cloud-based analytics environments.

Experience supporting or contributing to cloud migration projects.

Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
Considered an Asset:

Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate

Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate

Leadership experience in mentoring junior BI developers and leading cross-functional BI projects.

Proven expertise in lakehouse architecture and hybrid data solutions that integrate on-prem and cloud environments

Hands-on experience with big data technologies.
