In this position, you will design, develop and provide ongoing support and tune and optimize their performance to ensure they remain highly available, reliable, and secure.Core ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain database systems to meet organizational requirements. Collaborate with System Architects to plan DBMS capacity and hardware requirements.Install and configure the production system locally in advance of shipment to customer site. Train and support Developers and Local Service Providers (LSPs).Define database migration strategy and design replication topology and methodology. Develop migration procedures/scripts and perform the migration.Monitor database performance, identify issues, and optimize database performance.Ensure database security by implementing access controls, encryption, and other security measures.Develop and implement backup and recovery plans to protect data integrity.Provide support for database-related issues, including troubleshooting and resolving problems.Create and maintain documentation for database configurations, schemas, changes, processes, and procedures.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsLegally eligible to work in CanadaFluent in English (speak, read, write)Able to obtain (in a timely manner) and maintain Government of Canada Secret level security clearanceAble to travel approx. 2 weeks/year on averageBachelor's degree in computer science (or related program) or equivalent years of additional relevant professional experienceKnowledge of the following:Database management principlesData modelingDatabase tuning, performance and optimizationDatabase security practicesDatabase backup and recoveryBasic networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, network security practices.10 years of experience in database administrationExperience with the following technologies:Operating Systems: Linux, Windows ServerDatabase Management Systems: SQL, Oracle PL/SQL, PostgreSQL PL/pgSQL and BashVirtualization: VMwareContainerization/Orchestration: DockerDeployment/Configuration: PuppetSQL and Scripting: SQL, BashSecurity: Active Directory, Kerberos, LDAP, TLSTools: GitPreferred QualificationsOracle Certified Professional (OCP), Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, or similar certifications are assets.Experience with the following technologies:Database Management Systems: Mongo DB, NoSQL (Elasticsearch)Virtualization: HyperV, XCP-ngContainerization/Orchestration: KubernetesDeployment/Configuration: Terraform, Ansible, Bicep, HelmchartSQL and Scripting: Python, PowerShellSecurity: Bitlocker, LUKSCloud Platforms: AWS RDS, Azure SQL DatabaseTools: tcpdump, Wireshark, PowerCLI, Sysinternals Suite, BIRTAdditional InformationEqual Opportunity StatementOur organization is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace.
