About the role
SaskEnergy is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to join our team. The Specialist, Solutions Architecture is a technical leader who is responsible to analyze business needs to determine and implement new technology solutions in collaboration with various departments. This position makes decisions that set the direction for technological solutions for the Corporation, impacting how employees interact and work with various DT&S systems and solutions.

Key Accountabilities
- Critically evaluate potential solutions and software to ensure they are in line with SaskEnergy and DT&S’s strategic goals; propose recommendations based on thorough assessments, keeping the company's long-term vision in mind.
- Collaborate with the business units to identify areas of technical process improvement and provide guidance on how to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Lead the application rationalization practice and new solution triage team within the DT&S division at SaskEnergy.
- Regularly review the Corporation’s existing application, technology, and IT/OT business service portfolio. Propose streamlining measures, phase-outs, or upgrades to ensure that the suite of applications and technologies remain relevant and value-driven.
- Collaborate with the DT&S Vendor and Financial Management team to find efficiencies in tool and solution selection.
- Take a proactive role in shaping and maturing SaskEnergy's Solution Architecture practice. Lead initiatives such as the establishment and guidance of committees, notably the SA Guild, to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and best practices within the architectural community.
- Lead work with cross functional teams to facilitate requirements gathering business and technical requirements for software and technology solutions.
- Build documentation for technical specifications, requirements, and processes. This includes building solution diagrams in consultation with DT&S’s enterprise architecture team.
- Equip business teams with the necessary tools and training, improving day-to-day operations and enabling them to innovate and drive growth.
- Support internal departments with advanced technological advice for insights on leveraging technology for business expansion and improvement.
- Regularly review key Solution Architecture artifacts and documents, including Solution Designs and as-builts; provide insightful recommendations that meet the evolving needs of SaskEnergy and adhere to industry best practices.
- Act as a liaison between the architecture and planning practice in DT&S and other team leads, managers and senior leaders, and ensure the technical solutions proposed meet the diverse needs of all stakeholders.
- Maintain and grow knowledge of modern IT and technology tools and techniques to enable innovation and modernization.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related field.
- Eight (8) years of experience in solution architecture, data and analytics, networks and infrastructure, or application management and support.
- Work experience in the utilities sector would be considered an asset.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and knowledge of product management practices.
- Experience with Cloud infrastructure as a service and platform-as-a-service offerings in Microsoft Azure is considered an asset.
- Experience leading collaborative team efforts and mentoring junior technical resources.
- Experience with integrating cloud, hybrid and on-prem solutions is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of solutions architecture patterns and methodologies.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation is considered an asset.
- Basic knowledge of machine learning and AI tools and techniques.
- Basic knowledge of CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Travis CI, or CircleCI is considered an asset.
- Programming skills including experience in common programming languages such as C++, Java, Python, etc. and query languages such as SQL, Kusto, Power Query, etc.
- Strong communication skills and ability to present complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
- Proficient skills in architectural and process modeling tools like Visio, ArchiMate, Sparx Enterprise Architect, etc.
A suitable combination of relevant education and experience will also be considered.
Additional Information
- Travel away from bid headquarters may be required on occasion.
- A Class 5 Driver’s License is required.
