Postmedia is looking for an experienced Senior PHP/WordPress Developer to lead the development, architecture, and maintenance of its large-scale WordPress VIP (WPVIP) platform.

This role is ideal for a developer who focuses on writing high-quality, maintainable code and believes in automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous delivery. You will also mentor other developers and help improve engineering standards across the team.

This is a full-time, permanent remote position for candidates located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Key Responsibilities

WordPress & PHP Development

Design and build custom WordPress themes, plugins, and applications. Develop high-performance solutions optimized for the WordPress VIP platform. Write clean, organized, and scalable PHP 8.x code. Follow Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and SOLID development principles. Ensure code meets WordPress VIP coding standards.

Testing & Quality Assurance

Use Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) to collaborate with stakeholders and define project requirements. Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Acceptance Test-Driven Development (ATDD) practices. Create automated tests to ensure code quality and reliability. Promote a test-first development culture within the team.

Continuous Integration & Deployment

Manage and improve Continuous Delivery (CD) pipelines. Use GitHub Actions and VIP-CLI for automated deployments. Ensure all code is tested, reviewed, and deployment-ready before release. Automate code quality checks, unit tests, and integration testing.

Leadership & Team Collaboration

Mentor developers and share best practices. Help team members solve technical challenges. Participate in pair programming and technical discussions. Identify technical debt and improve existing codebases. Take ownership of project delivery from development to deployment.

Required Skills & Experience

7+ years of professional PHP development experience. Strong experience with the WordPress VIP ecosystem. Deep understanding of enterprise-level WordPress development. Experience with automated testing and quality assurance processes. Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows. Experience leading technical projects and mentoring developers.

Compensation

Base Salary: CAD $85,000 – $95,000 per year. Full-time permanent position.
