The Team

The Global Fraud Technology team develops and manages enterprise fraud detection capabilities that protect Scotiabank, its customers, and its employees across all channels and products. We partner closely with Fraud Operations, Risk Management, Data & Analytics, Cyber Security, Digital Banking, Payments, and Enterprise Technology teams to deliver industry-leading fraud detection solutions and continuously evolve our capabilities to address emerging fraud threats.

As part of Global Technology, we are responsible for defining and executing the fraud detection technology strategy, ensuring scalable, resilient, and data-driven solutions that enable real-time decisioning, advanced analytics, machine learning, and operational effectiveness across the Bank’s global footprint.

The Role

The Director, Global Fraud Technology – Fraud Detection is accountable for the strategic direction, delivery, modernization, and ongoing operation of the Bank’s fraud detection technology ecosystem. This role leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for fraud detection platforms, decisioning capabilities, machine learning enablement, rules management, data integration, and operational tooling.

The Director partners with business and technology executives to define long-term roadmaps, prioritize investments, and ensure fraud technology capabilities effectively balance customer experience, fraud losses, operational efficiency, and regulatory requirements.

The role is responsible for ensuring business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, model risk management requirements, and enterprise technology standards.

Key Accountabilities

Strategy & Leadership

Develop and execute the multi-year fraud detection technology strategy and roadmap aligned with enterprise fraud objectives. Lead the modernization of fraud detection capabilities, including real-time event processing, machine learning, graph analytics, behavioral analytics, and cloudbased platforms. Serve as the senior technology leader for fraud detection across retail, commercial, digital, payments, and emerging fraud domains. Partner with Fraud, Risk, Operations, and Technology executives to define priorities, business cases, and investment strategies. Establish technology standards, architectural principles, and operating models for fraud detection solutions globally. Provide leadership and direction for strategic vendor relationships and technology partnerships.

Platform Ownership & Delivery

Own the end-to-end fraud detection technology portfolio, including rules engines, machine learning platforms, decisioning systems, case management integrations, data services, and supporting operational tooling. Ensure delivery of scalable, highly available, and resilient fraud detection solutions capable of supporting enterprise growth and evolving threat landscapes. Oversee platform modernization initiatives and technology transformation programs. Drive adoption of cloud-native architectures, event-driven processing, and modern engineering practices. Ensure technology solutions align with enterprise architecture standards, security requirements, and regulatory expectations.

Data, Analytics & Model Enablement

Partner with Fraud Analytics and Data Science teams to enable the deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management of fraud models. Ensure technology capabilities support model performance monitoring, explainability, governance, auditability, and continuous optimization. Drive the evolution of fraud data ecosystems, including real-time streaming, feature stores, graph capabilities, and analytical environments. Support advanced fraud detection techniques, including behavioral profiling, anomaly detection, network analytics, and AI-driven detection capabilities.

Risk, Governance & Compliance

Ensure fraud detection platforms operate within the Bank’s risk appetite and governance framework. Establish controls and oversight mechanisms supporting regulatory, compliance, privacy, and model risk management requirements. Partner with Internal Audit, Compliance, Risk Management, and Model Validation teams to ensure technology controls remain effective. Ensure operational resiliency, disaster recovery readiness, and technology risk management practices are maintained across the portfolio.

Operational Excellence

Drive continuous improvement in fraud detection effectiveness, false positive reduction, operational efficiency, and customer experience. Establish and monitor key performance indicators, service-level objectives, platform health metrics, and business outcomes. Ensure effective incident management, production support, and operational governance processes. Lead technology capacity planning, financial management, and vendor performance management activities.

Talent Leadership

Build, lead, and develop high-performing engineering, product, architecture, and platform teams. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and collaboration. Coach senior managers and technical leaders while establishing succession and talent development plans. Champion Agile delivery, DevSecOps practices, and product-oriented operating models.

General

Champions a customer-focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions. Actively pursues effective and efficient operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to, and effectiveness of business controls to meet obligations relating to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, conduct, and technology risk.

What You Will Bring to Succeed Must Have

10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, including large-scale enterprise platform ownership. 5+ years of experience leading fraud, risk, financial crime, payments, or real-time decisioning technology teams. 5+ years of leadership experience managing managers and multidisciplinary technology teams. Deep knowledge of fraud detection platforms, decisioning systems, machine learning enablement, and fraud operations workflows. Experience implementing and operating real-time fraud detection capabilities in high-volume transaction environments. Strong understanding of cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Azure. Experience with event-driven architectures, streaming technologies, microservices, APIs, and large-scale data platforms. Experience managing technology strategy, roadmaps, budgets, vendor relationships, and technology transformation initiatives. Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills, with demonstrated ability to influence senior leadership. Proven experience balancing fraud prevention effectiveness, customer experience, operational efficiency, and technology investment priorities. Experience working within highly regulated financial services environments.

Nice to Have

Experience with fraud detection vendors. Experience supporting model governance and validation requirements. Knowledge of graph analytics, behavioral biometrics, device intelligence, and AIbased fraud detection techniques. Experience in payments fraud, scam detection, account takeover, digital fraud, or financial crime technology. Understanding of regulatory compliance, and model risk management frameworks. Experience leading global teams across multiple geographies.
