The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of modern digital services by designing automated test solutions, developing test strategies, implementing automation frameworks, and supporting continuous quality improvement across cross-functional product teams.

This opportunity involves working with Agile delivery teams supporting service innovation, program modernization, and digital transformation projects that improve government services for Albertans.

Role Overview

The QA Automation Developer will work as part of cross-functional Agile product teams delivering digital services across the Government of Alberta.

The successful candidate will lead quality assurance automation activities, including test planning, automated test suite development, system testing, performance testing, security testing, and quality metrics reporting.

The role requires strong collaboration with Product Owners, Developers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure digital solutions meet quality, performance, security, and usability expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Test Automation Development & Quality Engineering (40%) Create, maintain, and enhance automated test scripts and frameworks. Develop automated test suites supporting frequent and reliable digital service delivery. Design and execute system-level automated tests. Create reusable testing components, frameworks, and automation assets. Support quality engineering practices including test coverage, code quality, and continuous improvement. Contribute to initiatives involving AI-assisted testing and reusable automation solutions. Test Planning & Execution (30%) Develop automation test plans, test cases, and testing scenarios. Identify required testing types, tools, environments, and test data. Design and implement: Functional testing End-to-end testing Regression testing Load testing Performance testing Security testing Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities. Analyze test results and identify opportunities for quality improvement. Quality Metrics & Reporting (15%) Define and implement quality measurement practices. Collect and analyze automated testing metrics. Generate quality reports and testing artifacts. Provide recommendations based on quality trends and findings. Support teams in adopting consistent QA standards. Agile Team Collaboration (15%) Work collaboratively within Agile product teams. Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, reviews, and retrospectives. Collaborate with developers, analysts, product owners, and stakeholders. Promote quality-first practices throughout the software development lifecycle. Support digital transformation initiatives across multiple government programs. Required Skills & Experience

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Public Sector / Digital Government Experience (Highly Preferred)

Experience working with government digital services or large public sector organizations. Experience supporting citizen-facing digital platforms. Understanding of government technology standards, governance, and delivery practices. Experience working within enterprise digital transformation initiatives.

Work Arrangement

This position is primarily remote.

The consultant may occasionally be required to attend meetings or work sessions in Edmonton, Alberta, with reasonable notice from the Government of Alberta.
