Lead Data Strategist
About the role
Lead data strategists at Thoughtworks develop modern data strategy and architecture approaches to meet key business objectives and provide end-to-end data solutions. They focus on strategic programs with clients to conduct in-depth technical or organizational reviews, helping stakeholders understand the potential that data and AI bring to solving their most pressing problems. On projects, they lead the design of targeted data strategies, data governance implementations, and high-level roadmaps. Alongside strategic advisory work, they lead delivery teams to ensure the successful implementation of the data vision, acting as a crucial translator between business needs and technical execution. Job responsibilities You will lead and manage strategic data projects from inception to completion, including goal-setting, scope definition, and ensuring value delivery through cross-team collaboration. You will collaborate closely with clients to understand their business ecosystem and leverage this understanding to design data and technology strategies aligned with their objectives. You will conduct in-depth reviews of current data, AI and technology landscapes, providing actionable, high-level roadmaps to help clients unlock the full potential of their data. You will act as a translator between business, data, and IT, effectively communicating data strategy and actionable insights to senior client stakeholders. You will lead the creation of end-to-end viable data solutions and oversee program inceptions for new data product development. You will implement and manage data governance frameworks on projects, addressing security, privacy, data lineage, and compliance requirements. You will advise clients on modern data paradigms - such as data-as-a-product or federated governance - and guide teams on how to build the right solutions to harness insights. You will collaborate with sales and account teams to shape viable solutions for client challenges. Job qualifications Technical Skills You have experience as a consultant, with a proven track record of leading the design and implementation of data strategies that drive business value. You have a strong working knowledge of data modeling, modern data platforms, and cloud data ecosystems to shape, assess, and guide solution design. You have experience acting as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring strategy translates into viable technical solutions. You have demonstrated leadership abilities, with the capacity to lead technical or strategy teams and drive projects to successful completion. You have practical experience implementing proper data governance policies, including data lineage, quality checks, and classification in a project setting. You are familiar with AI and ML use cases and landscapes, allowing you to influence the architecture of solutions that support advanced analytics. You have experience applying data-driven approaches and data privacy strategies to solve concrete business problems. You are flexible and adaptable, capable of stepping into technical reviews, organizational assessments, or strategic delivery roles as the project demands. Professional Skills You understand the importance of stakeholder management and can easily liaise between clients and other key stakeholders throughout projects, ensuring buy-in and gaining trust along the way. You are resilient in ambiguous situations and can adapt your role to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
