The Opportunity The District of Sparwood is seeking a customer-focused, technically skilled, and service-oriented Information Technology Support Technician to join its Corporate Services team. Reporting to the IT Operations Lead, the Information Technology Support Technician provides front-line technical support and operational assistance for the District's information technology systems, infrastructure, and business applications. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient day-to-day technology services for staff, Council, and municipal facilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting users, maintaining hardware and software, assisting with cybersecurity initiatives, participating in technology projects, and helping deliver exceptional IT service across the organization. Key Responsibilities The Information Technology Support Technician provides technical support and operational assistance across the District's technology environment, including: Providing front-line support for computer hardware, software, mobile devices, printers, and network connectivity. Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical issues while escalating complex matters as required. Setting up, configuring, deploying, and maintaining desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and peripheral equipment. Performing software installations, updates, patches, and routine system maintenance. Assisting with the technical delivery of Council meetings, committee meetings, training sessions, and special events, including audio-visual and live-streaming support. Supporting system monitoring, backups, disaster recovery testing, and cybersecurity initiatives. Maintaining IT documentation, inventories, asset records, and configuration information. Assisting with IT projects, technology upgrades, vendor coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate is a collaborative and adaptable technology professional who enjoys solving problems, supporting users, and providing excellent customer service. They are organized, dependable, and able to communicate technical information effectively to users with varying levels of technical knowledge. The ideal candidate thrives in a team environment while also being comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities. Qualifications and Experience Include: Diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field. Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience providing IT support and maintaining business applications and systems. Strong working knowledge of desktop and laptop hardware, operating systems, and common business software. Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications and collaboration tools. Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. Experience in a municipal or public-sector environment is considered an asset. Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Compensation & Benefits This is a CUPE regular full-time position.
