The Enterprise Analytics function at Canfor has a vision to deliver data, information and tools to employees at all operating levels and across all business lines to support decision-making that drives operational efficiency, product diversification and innovation.

As a Data Engineer, you’re responsible for designing and executing data strategy, building data pipelines, and driving data projects from inception to implementation. You’re also responsible for ensuring the data architecture and solution designs align with Data and Analytics roadmaps with a strong focus on implementing cloud-based analytics solutions.

In this exciting role, you’ll collaborate with business partners from various functional areas to build our next generation analytics platform, and to support the delivery of analytics solutions to the business.

A day in the life of the Data Engineer includes:

  • Execute data projects through design, build, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale enterprise ETL processes in Microsoft Fabric
  • Design and build efficient, scalable and reliable data pipelines to extract and transform data
  • Accountable for all data pipelines and the overall quality of the data solutions that analytics function supports
  • Implement processes that maintain the security, accuracy, accountability, and availability aspects of data management
  • Collaborate with business and IT partners in strategizing, planning and implementing projects within designated time and budget constraints
  • Responsible for various types of technical documentation
  • Gather business requirements, model and design solutions to support analytics delivery
  • Develop and deploy solutions based on standard development procedures and best practices

For this role, you’ll come equipped with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics, or Data Engineering training/certification
  • 3+ years of Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence experience in a project environment
  • 3+ years of demonstrated data engineering and/or data streaming development experience
  • Proven track record in designing and building efficient and scalable cloud architectures
  • Proven experience in database design, data schema design and data modeling
  • Experience delivering ETL/ELT solutions for importing data from a wide variety of sources
  • Experience working with Microsoft Fabric or Azure Products: Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Purview, Azure DevOps, etc.
  • Experience designing and building cloud data architecture to facilitate data pipelines and analysis workflows within a cloud environment (preferably Microsoft Fabric)
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning systems (preferably Oracle) is an asset
  • Self-starter with the ability to meet the needs of a demanding business and IT environment
  • Ability to learn and apply new and emerging concepts and technologies
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to understand both business and technical aspects
  • Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Communicates ideas, both technical and solution focused, in an easy-to-understand language
  • Excellent analytics, mathematical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated

The salary range for this position is: $79,450.00-$113,500.00
