Job Title: Fabric Data Engineer Mode of Work - Hybrid ( 1-2 days onsite) Location - Toronto ON
Job Description
The requirement is for a data engineer with experience in Fabric and focus areas being Fabric Lakehouse and Fabric Notebooks.
Key Responsibilities Lakehouse Architecture: Build, manage, and optimize scalable Lakehouse structures using Delta Lake and medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers). Fabric Notebooks Operations: Develop robust Notebooks (using PySpark and Spark SQL) to execute data ingestion, data wrangling, cleaning, and large-scale transformations. Data Pipeline Orchestration: Design automated and event-driven data flows using Fabric Data Factory pipelines, Copy Jobs, and Dataflows Gen2 to move data from diverse enterprise sources. Performance Optimization: Implement query optimization techniques such as partitioning, V-order, and Z-order to enhance Spark compute performance and Direct Lake BI querying. Governance & Version Control: Manage CI/CD deployment pipelines using native Git integration, enforce role-based access controls, and apply sensitivity labels. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with data scientists, BI developers, and business analysts to deliver clean, trusted datasets and analytical models.
Required Qualifications Experience: 2 to 5+ years of hands-on experience in data engineering, specifically utilizing the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem (or a strong Azure background with Synapse/ADLS transitioning into Fabric). Core Languages: Proficiency in PySpark, Python, and SQL (including T-SQL). Familiarity with DAX and KQL (Kusto Query Language) is a distinct asset. Platform Specifics: Demonstrated ability to work within the OneLake environment, managing Lakehouse files, and optimizing Delta formats. Data Modeling: Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and implementing modern ELT patterns Operations & CI/CD: Experience working with CI/CD tools, Git, and applying standard DevOps and Agile methodologies to data development.
