We specialize in the valuation of employee future benefit plans for public sector organizations across Canada, including workers' compensation benefits, long-term disability benefits, non-pension post-retirement benefits, sick leave benefits, and other post-employment benefit arrangements.
Due to continued growth across Canada, we are seeking an Actuarial Consultant to join our team and help deliver high-quality actuarial services to public sector organizations. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced actuaries, actuarial associates, and actuarial students to deliver exceptional client service. This position is available as a full-time remote opportunity anywhere in Canada. Our team currently works remotely across multiple provinces, and we are committed to continuing to expand our national practice serving public sector organizations across the country.
Qualifications and Experience: University degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. Actuarial designation (ACIA, ASA, FCIA, FSA, or equivalent), or near qualification. Five or more years of relevant actuarial experience is strongly preferred. Experience in employee future benefits, workers' compensation programs, long-term disability programs, or related practice areas is considered an asset Relevant experience may have been gained through actuarial consulting, insurance, pension consulting, or other actuarial practice areas.
The Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate: Strong technical actuarial skills and professional judgment. Ability to contribute effectively in a role aligned with their experience and career objectives. Interest in leadership, professional growth, and helping support the firm's continued success. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with a high degree of accuracy. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. A client-focused approach and commitment to high-quality service. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word. Interest in leveraging technology, automation, and innovative approaches to improve actuarial processes and client service.
Primary Responsibilities: Reporting directly to the firm's President and Consulting Actuary, responsibilities will be tailored to the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, strengths, and career objectives.
Responsibilities may include: Perform and/or review actuarial valuations of employee future benefit plans. Validate and analyze client data and develop valuation assumptions. Analyze changes in liabilities and explain valuation gains and losses. Prepare, review, and communicate actuarial valuation results and reports. Participate in or lead client meetings, presentations, and ongoing client support. Support or manage valuation workflow and project delivery. Mentor and develop actuarial associates, students, and interns. Collaborate with colleagues to improve processes, workflows, and efficiencies. Contribute to business development initiatives and strengthen relationships within the actuarial and public sector communities. Participate in special actuarial projects and research initiatives as required.
Depending on experience and interests, opportunities exist to assume leadership roles in client management, practice development, business growth, strategic initiatives, and the ongoing evolution of the firm.
