Description This job posting is for an existing, active vacancy and we are looking to hire NodeJS Backend Developer in Canada (WFH), immediately who has strong experience in developing backend applications using Node.js, Express.js, and NestJS, while also leveraging C# as a secondary development language for integrations and cross-platform solutions. Role Overview We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our Retail & E-commerce technology team, focused on designing, developing, and supporting scalable backend services that power critical customer and business experiences. This role is ideal for a highly skilled engineer with deep expertise in Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, API development, distributed systems, and cloud-native application development, capable of building resilient, high-performance solutions in enterprise environments. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience developing backend applications using Node.js, Express.js, and NestJS, while also leveraging C# as a secondary development language for integrations and cross-platform solutions. You will work closely with product managers, architects, QA engineers, DevOps teams, and business stakeholders to deliver reliable and secure services that support large-scale Retail & E-commerce platforms. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Node.js, JavaScript/TypeScript, Express.js, and NestJS Build scalable and maintainable microservices architectures that support high-volume Retail & E-commerce workloads Develop and consume RESTful and GraphQL APIs while ensuring reliability, performance, and security Implement asynchronous processing patterns, event-driven architectures, and distributed system integrations Contribute to application development using C# where required for integrations, services, or platform interoperability Design and optimize data access patterns, queries, and database models using relational databases and SQL technologies Collaborate with architects and engineering teams to define scalable system designs and technical solutions Implement automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and API-level testing following Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices Deploy, monitor, and support applications running on Azure and GCP, with a primary focus on Azure-based solutions Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable reliable and repeatable software delivery Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks across application, API, and database layers Ensure secure development practices, including authentication, authorization, data protection, and vulnerability remediation Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and engineering best-practice initiatives Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement efforts across the engineering organization Create and maintain technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures Required Skillset & Tool Knowledge Backend Development (25%) Strong experience developing enterprise backend applications using Node.js Advanced knowledge of JavaScript and TypeScript Hands-on experience with Express.js and NestJS Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, event loops, and non-blocking architectures Experience applying Test-Driven Development (TDD) and modern software engineering practices C# Development (15%) Working knowledge of C# for service development, integrations, and platform interoperability Ability to support and maintain applications built across multiple technology stacks API Development & System Design (15%) Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and GraphQL services Knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems Experience designing scalable, resilient, and maintainable backend solutions Understanding of service communication patterns, API governance, and system integration best practices Database & Data Handling (15%) Strong SQL development and database design skills Experience working with relational database systems Ability to optimize queries, indexes, and data-access patterns for performance and scalability Understanding of data modeling and transactional systems Cloud & DevOps (15%) Strong experience with Microsoft Azure Working knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Experience deploying and supporting cloud-native applications Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and release management practices Familiarity with containerized application deployment and cloud operational practices Security, Testing & Performance (10%) Experience implementing secure coding practices and API security standards Knowledge of authentication and authorization mechanisms Strong understanding of unit testing, integration testing, and API testing Experience monitoring application performance and troubleshooting production issues Ability to identify and resolve scalability and reliability challenges Communication & Initiative (5%) Strong communication and collaboration skills Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced enterprise environment Excellent problem-solving abilities and ownership mindset Demonstrated initiative in driving technical improvements and engineering excellence Good to Haves Experience working within Retail, E-commerce, Fulfillment, or Supply Chain domains Familiarity with event-driven architectures and messaging platforms Experience supporting large-scale customer-facing applications Exposure to cloud observability, monitoring, and logging solutions Knowledge of software architecture patterns and domain-driven design concepts Experience contributing to platform modernization and cloud transformation initiatives Background mentoring engineers and leading technical discussions across teams
