Senior L3 Network Engineer (Network SME and Automation Lead) Role Overview The Senior L3 Network Engineer is the technical lead for the Switch Lifecycle Refresh Program, with responsibility for engineering design, migration planning, technical governance, advanced troubleshooting, automation development, and escalation management. This role independently leads complex refresh activities, owns annual automation initiatives, and drives continuous improvements in operational efficiency through scripting and process innovation. Core Responsibilities Network Refresh Engineering Assess switch refresh candidates and confirm hardware lifecycle requirements. Conduct technical discovery and deployment-readiness assessments. Develop deployment strategies, methods of procedure (MOPs), and rollback plans. Validate hardware, software, and feature compatibility. Lead migration planning, implementation, and validation activities. Review and improve engineering standards, templates, and implementation practices. Advanced Troubleshooting and Escalation Diagnose and resolve complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 network issues. Perform root-cause analyses and assess service and business impacts. Provide senior-level support during critical outages and maintenance windows. Analyze packet captures, device logs, alarms, and telemetry. Investigate routing, switching, convergence, and performance anomalies. Automation and Innovation Design, develop, test, and implement network automation solutions. Automate configuration generation, validation, and deployment activities. Develop reusable pre- and post-cutover validation scripts. Implement configuration-compliance auditing and drift detection. Build dashboards for deployment tracking, lifecycle status, and operational reporting. Identify and deliver at least one measurable productivity or efficiency improvement each year. Technical Leadership and Governance Mentor L2 engineers and support their technical development. Review change requests, implementation plans, MOPs, and rollback procedures. Lead technical governance, design assurance, and readiness reviews. Contribute to architecture, standards, and solution-design discussions.
