Senior Software Engineer — Toronto Fintech backend systems. Capital markets scale. AI-native engineering for an investments app. We're hiring a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to design and build the backend systems behind a brokerage and capital markets platform — trading, order management, positions, settlement, funding, and risk. You'll work at the intersection of financial engineering and modern software practice, partnering closely with a product and engineering team based overseas. What You'll Do: Design and own backend systems powering trading, order management, positions, and settlement Make architecture decisions built for market-driven scale, accuracy, and security Drive root-cause analysis on production issues in a live trading environment Collaborate daily with Product, Risk, Compliance, and cross-regional engineering teams Use AI coding tools and agents throughout the dev lifecycle — coding, review, testing, debugging, documentation Help establish AI-native engineering practices across the team What You'll Need: 5+ years building backend systems in Java, C++, Go, Python, or similar Proven experience with distributed, highly-available systems Strong grasp of databases, APIs, messaging, caching, and concurrency Independent ownership from technical design through production Strong cross-functional and cross-cultural communication skills Regular, critical use of AI coding tools — not just relying on generated output Nice to Have: Experience building OMS, trading, portfolio, clearing/settlement, or market data systems Background in regulated capital markets or brokerage environments Experience with high-volume, low-latency trading infrastructure Cloud infrastructure and modern DevOps exposure Prior collaboration with China-based engineering teams Professional Mandarin proficiency Key Skills: Still love writing code, not just managing projects Understand how capital markets businesses translate into system architecture Have built where accuracy and risk control matter as much as speed Already treat AI as core to your daily workflow Enjoy pushing back on existing approaches with simpler solutions We regret to inform only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
