Senior Java Software Engineer Number of positions: 1, 12-Month Contract initially Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 4 Days/Week Onsite) Must be eligible to work in Canada Start Date: ASAP after all onboarding completed Roles and responsibilities: We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to join our team in Toronto. In this role, you will design, develop, and modernize core Capital Markets platforms (Equities, Fixed Income, Mortgages). You’ll focus on building scalable microservices, driving JDK upgrades, remediating technical debt, and ensuring high platform stability. What You’ll Do Build & Modernize: Design, develop, and support high-performance Java applications and integration APIs. Platform Health: Lead legacy system upgrades (JDK/libraries), resolve vulnerabilities, and optimize performance. Delivery & CI/CD: Write clean, testable code and deploy through automated CI/CD pipelines using Git. Collaborate & Support: Partner with project managers, business stakeholders, and infrastructure teams to resolve production issues and meet enterprise delivery standards. Must have skills/experience/qualifications: 5+ years of hands-on Java / backend development experience in an enterprise setting. Proven experience in Capital Markets (Equities, Fixed Income, Mortgages, or regulatory platforms). Expertise with APIs, microservices, and automated testing practices. Experience with system upgrades, security remediation, and reducing technical debt. Familiarity with modern DevOps workflows (Git, CI/CD pipelines). Nice to Have Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS / Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with observability, monitoring frameworks, or AI-assisted development tools.
