Finding a place to rent shouldn't feel like a gamble. Anyone who's scrolled Kijiji or Facebook Marketplace looking for an apartment knows the drill: fake listings, landlords who ghost, "too good to be true" prices that are exactly that. It's a broken system, and renters pay for it with wasted time, lost deposits, and sometimes worse. Norlease is built to fix that, starting in North Bay. Every listing on Norlease comes from a landlord who's been through phone verification and a manual ID check. No stolen photos, no scammers pretending to own a place they don't. And every renter who reaches out has gone through the same process, so landlords aren't wading through spam and no-shows either. We don't ask for income proof or credit scores. Not because we don't think landlords deserve good tenants, but because that kind of filtering opens the door to discrimination that's not allowed under Ontario's Human Rights Code, and frankly, it's not something we want to build regardless. Right now we're focused on North Bay, working directly with local landlords, students, and renters to get this right before we grow.
