Backend Software Engineer

Expected compensation: 65.00 CAD Per Hour HireArt is helping our client find a Backend Software Engineer to develop scalable backend systems that power new products, support market expansion, and enhance the user experience. This contract role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges while collaborating across engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver impactful solutions. In this role, you'll design, build, and maintain distributed backend services that support product initiatives, partner integrations, and regulatory requirements. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions while balancing technical investments with business priorities. The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer with a strong foundation in distributed systems and cloud technologies. They thrive in collaborative environments, take ownership of projects from concept through delivery, and are passionate about building high-quality, scalable software. As a Backend Software Engineer, You Will Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and distributed systems. Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code following engineering best practices. Support projects from design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing improvements. Develop integrations with internal and external partners. Collaborate with engineers on system architecture, technical design, and code reviews. Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize large-scale, highly available systems. Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver features that support business growth and regulatory requirements. Share technical knowledge through documentation, technical discussions, and engineering best practices. Requirements A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience 3+ years of professional software engineering experience Strong experience building distributed systems and backend services Experience designing, debugging, and maintaining fault-tolerant, highly available, large-scale systems Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases Experience working with public cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure Strong software design, problem-solving, and collaboration skills Nice To Have Experience with Python and/or Go Experience using AI tools or integrating AI-powered technologies into software development Commitment: This is a full-time, contract-to-hire position staffed via HireArt. This role is hybrid, requiring at least one onsite day per week during the contract period. Upon conversion to a full-time employee, the onsite expectation increases to 2-3 onsite days per week.
